A millionaire who was found guilty of arson seemed to feel that the verdict and punishment were too much for him to take. Right after hearing the verdict, Michael Marin then took a cyanide pill out of his pocket and put it into his mouth
The Wall Street trader who’d climbed Mount Everest was pronounced dead at Central Phoenix Hospital.
Marin had been convicted of deliberately burning down his mansion for the insurance money. He was facing a long time in prison as a result of the conviction. Police later found a canister of sodium cyanide in his car during their investigation into his death.
Sodium cyanide is typically used to extract gold in mines, but it also cuts off your breathing if ingested. Police believe that Marin used the powder to turn it into a pill that he could take in the courtroom. The father of four faced 16 years in prison if convicted.
