Val Patterson wanted to have the last word on his life, so before he died of  throat cancer last week, the 59-year-old Salt Lake City native wrote his own obituary.

In the unusual epitaph, the Utah man seems to speak from beyond the grave,  not only leaving messages for his loved ones but also playfully owning up to a  life of bad behavior.

“I have confessions and things I should now say,” he wrote. “As it turns  out, I AM the guy who stole the safe from the Motor View Drive Inn back in June,  1971. I could have left that unsaid, but I wanted to get it off my chest.”  READ MORE
