The youngest woman in Britain’s history to become a mom at age 12, claims she has no regrets about having been a pre-teen mom.  In fact, Amy Crowhurst is a proponent for having children as early as possible. Her reasoning seems to defy logic.  But let’s try and follow her logic – then come to your own conclusions.

Amy got pregnant in 2002 when she had sex with a guy she barely knew.  She gave birth to her son at age 13.  She dropped out of school to take care of her son.  She states, “I know I was stupid, but I’m not that bothered. Of course I wish it had never happened but it’s too late now.”

Then at 16 she moved out of her overcrowded home which consisted of her mom and 8 siblings. She received benefits (the equivalent to Welfare in the U.S.) and moved to a council house (the equivalent of Section 8 Housing in the United States).

Although she hadn’t been in touch with her son’s father after the pregnancy, he popped back into her life and got her pregnant – again.  At 16 she gave birth to her daughter.  Amy struggled financially to cope as a single mom.

Unable to cope with the harsh realities of her life, she began using drugs.  She was arrested and sentenced to community service and then got evicted from her housing for throwing drug-fueled parties. She told the court that the reason she threw these wild parties was to forget the pain of her daily life.

Still, Amy claims that should would support her own daughter if she got pregnant as a pre-teen.  Amy says, “Having sex at 12 is fine if you feel ready and aren’t pressured.”  Hello?  Is anybody home?

So what are the “benefits” of having kids at the age of 12?  According to Amy, she thinks she’s a better mom for having her kids early because she can relate better to them.  She also says she has lots of energy.

Amy claims another benefit is that at 22, she now has the freedom to meet other men and go dancing when her mom babysits.  She also says that when she sees girls now having kids, she’s glad she got hers out of the way early. Amy also says “They’ll be at home and up in the night for the next 10 years. Plus they’re fat and I’m a size 6!”  Amy currently lives in a 3-bedroom apartment with her children, ages 9 and 7 and is still on Welfare.
