17-year-old James Prindle was convicted on Friday of raping a 23-month-old he was babysitting.
In August of 2010, Prindle ran to a neighbor’s house and stated that a, “large black man wearing a mask broke into the apartment”.
Police were called and the little girl was found bleeding profusely into her diaper and was covered in bruises with a few lacerations, including one on her lip. After being treated at the local hospital, doctors determined that the girl had been raped.
Police investigated the “break-in” but found no evidence of anyone besides the two ever being inside the apartment. After the police confronted him with the evidence, he accused his friends, which also turned out to be a lie. Prindle was the only one left in the equation and was charged with raping the two year old.
When the trial began, Prindle’s defense opened with, “There’s no DNA, no semen, no blood stain. You’ll hear how the child was bleeding but nothing links James to the sexual assault.” He went on to say, “He’s hanging out with friends, high, running the apartment complex. That’s what he was doing, making up stories lying about being in the apartment every time he was left alone for hours.”
The jury didn’t buy it, and still found him guilty of all charges against the young girl.
