NFL Star Files for Bankruptcy: $5,700 in Car Payments Each Month, $0 in Charity

Former NFL player Jamal Lewis has declared bankruptcy.   He is the latest in a large number of NFL athletes to bite the financial bullet, filing with $14.5 million in assets, and $10.6 million in liabilities.   The court documents state that Lewis now earns $35,000 per month, and spend $34,050 of it.

The filing, which you can see here , says that Lewis did some interesting things with his money.

Here are some examples:  His cars cost $5,700 per month, he doesn’t contribute anything to charity.   His mortgage is $6,000 per month and he owns a $200,000 boat, along with a $150,000 Ford F-650 XUV.   He owns quite a few other fancy cars, which explains why his payments are so high.
