A CNN correspondent has apologized for saying the words “f*cking n*gger” during a live broadcast. Susan Candiotti made the remarks as she was quoting a Facebook post from one of the suspects in the racially-charged shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“‘Today is two years that my dad has been gone, shot by’ — and please excuse the language, it’s very sensitive — ‘shot by a f—ing [N-word],’” she said.
Candiotti was not edited when she made her remark, but the words were blurred on the graphic next to her face. CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield said, “We apologize to our viewers for such profanity being used on our air.”
Later, Candiotti apologized for her words.
In quoting someone else’s words, I repeated their offensive and inappropriate language. I deeply regret it,” she said, according to Mediabistro.com

Not only does the continued glorification of of calling out nigga – I used a not er – so it’s okay, right? But the images of lavish lifestyles, degrading depiction of women, whoremongering, etc. desensitizes all that view/hear this of deeper issues BEYOND the music… we speak to our leaders and entertainers much the same – with our vote. Voting with going to the booth or choosing what we spend our money on.

They suspended Roland Martin for his comment about gays, which was a much lighter comment, yet CNN did not suspend her or the other person who did it. This was the second time in 3 weeks! I think that CNN and it’s several of its newscasters have clearly moved to the Right! If you think politics and racism is not involved, you should stop and listen to several of them and the negativity they dish out about the President, as well as the black community. Have you not noticed that they have more Republicans/Teapartiers on CNN than Independents or Democrats? I don’t understand how some people in this conversation are interpreting this statement by the CNN commentator. You have to look at the context in which the statement was made. She did not call anyone a “F*cking N*igger! That would be a racist statement! She was reporting what someone else said about black people. In the case of Roland Martin, he was making a personal statement about gays! He was not reporting what someone else said about gays! There is a huge difference when you look at the context in which the statements were made. And, I don’t think anyone is apologizing for this woman, I think people are just making reasonable arguments about the context of the statement; something I think a lot of people are ignoring or simply missing in their argument. As a 69 year old African-American who faced overt, raw racism as the first of my race to attend a certain college in California (a private Christian school)–I am fully aware of racism as most of us are—this however, does not pass the litmus test. But, it seems that some of us want to make this something that it clearly is not!

That’s also unfortunate that some of our Black people refer to each other as “Nigga/Nigger.” Just because one tries to create a positive use of the “N” word or even spell it differently, does not take the sting away from the word’s original intent–to denigrate the Black race. We remain ignorant by virtue of claiming that word for our people. So the reality is that it is hurtful no matter what ethnic, cultural, or racial group is keeping the term alive in this day and age.
People should say what they want to say. Folks already know in what context it is being used. If it is used in a racial context we (black people) know. If someone says it in on offensive manner they should expect to get the hell slapped out of them. Ive read many of these blogs about this issue. It worries me that the educated blacks all think its okay to say the n word on t.v..They scare me because when my mother went to school in the 50′s. When the schools where first being segrigated. The reporters had to report news in a more racially charged atmosphere. They did not call a race of people out of there names while reporting news.. It wasnt okay when Martin was marching and its not okay now that our President is black.. Quit siding with white folks who call people the n words. It was wrong to say it, period. There is no justification in it. Regardless, if she was reading someone else’s words. It was wrong and insensitive and she should apologize for it. Obviously, it is not the first or last time she will say that word. We need to discuss why rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye feel it is okay to say it in their songs. That’s a problem also.
