A CNN correspondent has apologized for saying the words “f*cking n*gger” during a live broadcast.  Susan Candiotti made the remarks as she was quoting a Facebook post from one of the suspects in the racially-charged shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“‘Today is two years that my dad has been gone, shot by’ — and please excuse the language, it’s very sensitive — ‘shot by a f—ing [N-word],’” she said.

Candiotti was not edited when she made her remark, but the words were blurred on the graphic next to her face.  CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield said, “We apologize to our viewers for such profanity being used on our air.”

Later, Candiotti apologized for her words.

In quoting someone else’s words, I repeated their offensive and inappropriate language. I deeply regret it,” she said, according to Mediabistro.com

  1. G126 says:

Why should apologize for reading something aloud, that someone else wrote?

  2. Apology not accepted.

  3. mcgeenate says:

Thanks for the heads up about CNN but I no longer tune to that particular network. As a Black male I sense a long time ago they no longer appreciated my viewing them so I tuned out!

  4. David says:

No apology needed…she was reporting!  Where’s the indignation and rebuke by the Black community of all this dumb ass rap music that curses and uses NIgga as if it were something to be proud of?  Wake up Black people!  We are our own worst enemy right now…let get our shit together so we have a united front when dealing with REAL issues. No need for false outrage here!

  5. Wanda says:

All I’m going to say is “MSNBC”……..YEAAAH!!!

  6. Disc_science says:

She read a quote, so what? The only problem I have with it is, she shouldn’t have used profanity. She could have said…f-ing N word.

  7. Foolish2000_2000 says:

It’s just a word people! This is why we as a people can’t go anywhere because we let words stop us! You probably walk by a “STOP” sign and wait for it to turn green so you can go!

  8. Foolish2000_2000 says:

It’s just a word people! This is why we as a people can’t go anywhere because we let words stop us! You probably walk by a “STOP” sign and wait for it to turn green so you can go!

  9. Bigdon22 says:

As a 70 year  old Black Male, I have moved away from CNN also. I’ve noticed also them becoming less fair, and moving to the right. Very insensitive.

  10. Bigdon22 says:

As a 70 year  old Black Male, I have moved away from CNN also. I’ve noticed also them becoming less fair, and moving to the right. Very insensitive.

  11. Immortal and Forever says:

Freudian Slip – Now the media believes that “apologizing’ is enough to negate the hate they have for the ex-slave.  How many of the kidnapped slaved dies during the middle passage crossing of the Atlantic, and how many have died during their tenure as an unwilling slave, and how many today are willing to excuse the behavior of the ex-slave these days?  No reparations (no repair) = total destruction.

  12. W4196 says:

    I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Need to come together says:

When reporting she was not making the comment herself. Plus she gave everyone a heads up when she told folks that the language used was sensitive (as in inappropriate). We are getting upset over nothing here.  These were not her words.  I feel she didn’t need to appologize in this one case.

  14. legalblkchisis says:

Who cares!! Even if she said it, I for one wouldn’t give 2 craps!!! We African Americans allow that word to have to MUCH power!!! So someone says the N word and we should slit out wrist or start and all out brawl!!! I think NOT!! Its a dumb racial slur used by equally dumb people case closed!

  15. Stephie25_98 says:

    ^^EXACTLY^^ David, EXACTLY…

  16. Lawrence Campbell says:

…When it’s used in a professional context, or quote – it’s referred to as “Poetic License”.

Why should we be outraged?..every kind of foul thing is happening around us, yet we are content to respond to trivia. We should relish the opportunity to hear the truth – whenever/wherever it is to be found.

Here’s the message this woman was trying to convey…”there’s an element out there that represents a real threat to us all – particularly the BMIA (Black Man In America).” Be thankful someone cares enough to be real with us…apparently our rappers, politicians, police, and so called leaders don’t…be safe.

  17. Diana says:

My father was shot by a Dutch soldier iin 1940. My father was only 42 years old.His grandmother wa black and my mother was Dutch. For years I have been hating the Dutch for doing this to my father till I learnd about reencarnaion and I felt compation for this young soldier (20). My life changed I did not hate any more.
Besides : the only difference is the colour of the thin skin covering our body. Take this away and we all have the same colour : pink.
Excepting that my colour is black
    knowing that it is dark
I, myself, will be lighter than the day

  18. Ebony_man2010 says:

I agree there is no need for her to
apologize but I disagree that there is no “indignation
and rebuke by the Black community of all this dumb ass rap music”. Just
about EVERY black mainstream organization and black leaders and most
black people have denounced and condemned that sort of rap music. This
type of modern day black minstrel show is mainly being supported by
whites. Unfortunately black people have historically been viewed a
monolithic group by many whites and even by other black people. Your
    statement is a perfect
example of that. Jews monopolized the Hollywood film and TV industry.
Which has given us some of the worst examples of racism and misogyny.
But unlike black people no one in the Jewish community has every felt
the need to “rebuke” anything Jewish individuals have done. We need to
    stop deflecting
whenever someone white says or does something that may be viewed as
racist or offensive to us. In this case I’m glad she stated exactly what
this animal said because the police there are trying to say it was not a
    ahte crime.

  19. exects says:

This is our problem as black people today! We don’t
acknowledge when you are getting a racial shot. Many white people want to take you back to slavery times, and you let them, through the system, the laws are not made for whites there made for black men to fall, when we do they set you in the slaves seat (Prison). The (N Word) need to stop! with black people first before attacking white people. The young people don’t know how hard blacks fought against the word and now we use it on ourselves. WAKE UP AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLE! Quit listening to this new school hip-hop, go back to artist like public enemy, that tell you as black people about fighting the power, we still are suppose to be fighting and we gave up. The system is tearing the black man and his family apart.

  20. Guest says:

I agree. We need to focus more on what’s designed to hurt our lifestyles (legislation or non-legislation) as opposed to what’s meant or happens to hurt our feelings.
This includes the lack of attention being paid to our community by this very administration.
    Yeah I said it.
I also don’t think black folks would be upset about this ‘story’ if it wasn’t being stoked by blogs.
I give props to the reporter. She told it like it is and gave warning.

  21. Josephb says:

no apology needed..a quote is what the other person(s) said..

  22. S.e.G says:

I think she is a dumb bitch for saying it on live television regardless of it just being a quote. Her and the idiot producers should have use better judgment.. How sad that Fredricka had to step up and apologize for this cunt..

  23. Patrick L says:

she always wanted to say it – so there was here chance no since for sorry we got alot more white folks saying then saying sorry!  if she said it she ment to say it and always wanted too!

  24. Ricki says:

I think she should be fired or suspended for violating professional standards in the broadcast industry.  Yes, I know those words are common among some of “you people” but no journalist should EVER be allowed to stoop so low as to utter those words.  The “n” word would have sufficed.

  25. Bricjenns says:

If You DON’T Stand for Something, You WILL FALL for ANYTHING………..at this time in our struggle it is all relevant. OH! are YOU a part of the struggle?

  26. Davidsfhoto says:

She reports the news it’s her job!

  27. Shelley says:

EXCUSE ME!!!! She can’t say the N-word but you can say the B and C-word? Be who you want the world to be! I banned the N-word in my home long ago, for my Black friends who insisted on using it in front of the children (I wouldn’t have any other race of friends who even considered using it…even when they had “permission” from their Black friends). They were angry that I held them to these standards, but they adjusted and continued to be my friend and when they had children they also made this a rule in their homes. The B and C-words are also banned and any person (including women) who used either in my home would be escorted out and asked not to return. Respect yourself by respecting others.

  28. larry b says:

i agree, no apology is necessary for her reporting the news and using a quote. i am African American. I am not offended by her quoting the guy. I find it more offensive for someone to try to make an issue of it. It makes us seem trivial if were going to react to every use of the word without consideration to the context in which it was used.

  29. Cclark06 says:

OK, CNN, NOW SUSPEND HER LIKE YOU SUSPEND EVERYBODY ELSE?????

  30. Leslie says:

For what?  She was reading a quote.

  31. BlueKid says:

Ni99a in Paris, when you make songs to put this word in their mouths,,we leave it open to be call the N word. rappers give it the okay to say it for all.  I don’t agree with it and we do need to get it together and stop supporting this type of foolery.

  32. Leslie says:

The attitude of making this journalist “the bad guy” is just as bad as Gingrich claiming the liberal media, democrats, and Pres. Obama are “fanning the flames of racism”!   Folks today are so used to opinion led journalism and trying to be p.c. that they can’t recognize, let alone appreciate journalism and reporting in its basic form!

If you take issue with her reading a direct quote, you need to take issue with Jay Z, Little Wayne and the rest of them putting out music that has EVERYONE quoting them!  “niggas” “bitches” “ho” etc.

And yeah, I typed out the words because calling it “the n-word” takes the sting out of it.  Call it what it is and maybe you won’t be so comfortable using it!

  33. moonhead says:

Apologize for what? How in the hell are we supposed to know what was actually said, if she does not quote it. Some of the people that are complaining on here use this type of language every day toward Black people, and now they pretend to be upset about a reporter’s quote. What a f**king joke. Why don’t you go into your community, and raise hell at the ignorant Black people that refer to us as that? Some of these ignorant people actually will tell you that the N word, is a word of affection. Does it sound like affection when someone says” that F**king N*gger”? Reporters should always give the exact quote, so that nobody can say that it was a misquote. To do anything less, would not be doing their jobs.

  34. IgnantAzzKnuckleheads says:

All this “selective outrage” is stupid. If Black people ain’t careful they’re gonna end up getting all worked up about fairly trivial nonsense while missing “the forest for the trees”.
Has anyone noticed that gun sales have exploded in this country? Or that racism is getting more and more blatant, as the dominant society struggles with their economic status?
Blacks are marching in the streets “for Trayvon”, & rightfully so, but how many of those marching have registered to vote?
And, when the marches end, and some conservative AHole is elected because alot of Blacks DIDN’T vote, how long before the NEXT Trayvon happens.
Meanwhile…let’s get all riled up because somebody used a word we hear ALL THE TIME in rap music, movies, the street, etc.
Blacks are busy falling for the okey-doke, & if/when the s h ! t goes down, they’ll have no one to blame but themselves.
    Grow up!

  35. Alma Sisco-Smith says:

As a black woman, educated, and cultivated away from the use of that language, I see no need for Ms. Candiotti’s apology.  She was reporting as it has been said.  And it is important for this country to see, to hear and to know how deeply thesekinds of rascist feelings are being held onto today. So deeply entrenched that people continue to act out their hatred by seeking to kill those who represent the hatred carried within.

  36. Joceeco says:

She did nothing wrong. She was only quoting some racist fool.

  37. Marjani says:

I have copies of Alvin Watts’ facebook page. I downloaded them all and saved them on my laptop in case they try to take them down and say it didn’t happen. She was reading quotes from the killers. They actually did say all of that on Facebook.

  38. Robert L Collins III says:

OK Folks, This is that next generation, Just didn’t learn a thing. Dont think Dr King would appreciated the use of the word you Fools

  39. Johnny Henry says:

Hello Dr. Watkins, I’m so adamant about the word, N*gger.”  Ms. Candiotti has perhaps been wanting to say that word for a long time but had the opportunity to say it, so she did, which I  think is ignorant and shows signs of possible stupidity.  I say this because there is no such word as this because it  was created by some stupid white man to relegate the masses of “Afro-Americans,” to non-human status.  Remember, it’s not what you are called that matters but rather you answer to., also the “N” word belongs to whomever created it..

    Mr. Henry

  40. popsqualli says:

She should be Applauded. She is only the Messenger that has the Gonads to repeat the Message. Why run a Sensationalized headline to exploit her to get more readers? That makes me focus on YOU and your purpose. Why  YOU,’What Tha Ha-Yell’ really do what you do is the question that begs. Is it for ratings and money or to get the truth out?Thank You Susan for telling it like it was. Do it again next time. You are a REAL Reporter and I appreciate what you do. To this site…Y’all need to do better.

  41. popsqualli says:

    Please………..

  42. Juliuscaryirving says:

Everyone take a deep breathe. I saw the report she made and she was not malicious in any way, shape or form.  The language was addressed by Fredricka and should be left there.

Question: If she was any other color, would we be speaking about it…just sayin’, call it for what it was. ” A news report with foul language made by a man insane.

    Take Care

  43. Warith Hajj says:

I Don’t give a damn… The more significance black people give this the more it actually means something and the more you’re empowering ignorant people.

  44. Warith Hajj says:

I Don’t give a damn… The more significance black people give this the more it actually means something and the more you’re empowering ignorant people.

  45. Reneldamoorehead says:

Candiotti is a professional.  She does not “deeply regret” anything.  She meant to do and say exactly what she did.
    APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED.

  46. Hondo Gamba says:

To late the damage has been done, even before her using the word. Black’s need to listen to each other call each other the n word.Even I hear some black women calling each other B’s and H’s like it’s cute.Plus many black’s like to watch coonish type movies and tv shows.Plus listen to coonery minstrel rap music.

  47. Reneldamoorehead says:

You know nothing about reportage, apparently.
Incendiary epithets like the one Candiotti reported could have been eliminated. She did
what she did deliberately.  As for blacks saying
“Nigga”, we’ve always done so privately, with family and friends. It’s a black thing.  But we
always take umbrage at the word used by anybody else or publicly. As we should. Can you imagine Candiotti reporting: “guinea bastard” on TV?  Of course not. That would be
fodder for the Italian Anti-defamation League,
and herself.  I care. Candiotti was wrong.
    APOLGY NOT ACCEPTED! PERIOD.

  48. Reneldamoorehead says:

You have no idea what poetic license is.  Go. Learn.

  49. Reneldamoorehead says:

I no longer watch CNN since the Martin Roland situation.  I like only those who like me
    back. (But I love everyone).

  50. Reneldamoorehead says:

    CORRECTION: I MEANT ROLAND MARTIN”

  51. Reneldamoorehead says:

Have you ever heard of EDITING OUT SOMETHING?
Candiotti said what she quoted because she got to get her licks in on the race issue.  APOLOGY NOT
    ACCEPTED! PERIOD.

  52. Eiow95 says:

I believe that Susan Candiotti knew better then to say what she said; however, she said it any way.

Nevertheless, what are we going to do about our ignorant black rappers who have no respect for their ownselves, their black women, and for society? When will black men and kids stop wearing their pants below their filthy ass? When will our kids stop walking around like fools with their heads and faces hid by hoodies? When will black parents tell their kids to pull up their pants and drop the hoods? Not only are white folks afraid of some of our kids who walk around society looking like thugs, but most of us black folks are also afraid of them! Let us get our house in order — NOW, before we have no house or kids to put them in! I grow up in the streets and never thought I’d be afraid of anyone; however, I’m afraid to walk the streets, in the day time, and every ten steps or so, I must stop, turn around and look behind me–making sure I’m not being followed by a pants dropper and a hoodie who is looking to rob me of my retirement money. No! Not all pants droppers or hoodies are bad guys, but I’m still afraid of them, too. In Cathloc school the nuns would till us, “The good suffers for the bad.” So the good kids suffer for the bad ones. TOUGHEN UP PARENTS!!!

  53. Yolandaj55 says:

She was only quoting what was read and implicating the crime as what it was, a HATE CRIME” I testified a few months ago in a court setting and said the word, nigger, only repeating what was said to my employees. I have had the word said to me on two other occasions. It hurts and cuts like a sword very deep. However, a journalist should be able to tell the news without being censored. Rappers arent!!

  54. Csmith77 says:

What the hell is wrong with a excellent reporter quoting an article that was written by the man who shot 5 Black people for what? I believe that this reporter was attempting to deliver some substantive reasoning about the shooters state of mind… Racist ! Why in the hell would you attempt to “RED HERRING” CNN and their reporter for doing a informative piece of journalism that did inform the country what was in this shooters mind ! I she the problem as shallow reporting by you attempting to create a “STRAW MAN” where non exist ! STOP RACE BAITING and learn how to write !!!

    Chuck

  55. IowaFlash says:

     Well stated sir!

  56. Bigtcburr2 says:

     You are an IDIOT!

  57. Atshakoor says:

This is political correctness taken to the extreme! As an African American man, I do not find this offensive in the least! The lady was reporting what was said, and should not have to be put through all this ridiculous bs! She even apologized for what she was about to say! What is this all coming to when we have to censure reporting and tip toe around the N-Word in ever instance! Let’s grow up as a people, if in fact you were offended by this! Sorry, I just don’t see it!

  58. Dallasgranny22 says:

She was reading what someone else said. she warned the language was senstive . there is no need for apology

  59. Larome says:

I agree there is NO APOLOGY needed she was only reporting ,Rappers say this all the time for no reason,so if a white reporter is report what some racist punk said she needs to apologize  HELL NO she said it like it was…

  60. Rose says:

Mike Wallace just passed, God Bless him and his contributions to the world and his constant work at responsible information.

We are at a place and time in America where there are only a few real Journalist and bonifide News Reporters left. Instead we are plagued by people so desperate to create a name for themselves that they don’t care that the name they create may lack attributes of real journalist and news reporters,

They opt for the sensational which more frequently than not leaves out common sense, good judgement , non partiality and compassion. Maybe she’s never been called the slur her name implies, that’s possible, she probably grew up in a time and place that the use of that word had become unacceptable.

I have made a desicision to not remember her name and to place her in a nonexistent, unimportant status, I hope we all begin to make this choice. We should stop giving so much attention to the ignorance of ordinary people who take the low road to infamy.
There are so many ethnic slurs that we actually take the time to alphabetize them and post them on line.  We are all
caught in this seemingly inescapable vortex of ethnic intolerance but we can
turn the tide if we just stop feeding the monster!

  61. Blackfreethought says:

Right on Shelley, that’s what I’m talking about. I’ m so sick of this ignorant double standard, with the use of the (n) word. The word is sanitized when it comes out of a Black mouth but it becomes the utmost insult when it comes out of any other races mouth. I’ve been calling brothers on the use of the word for at least a decade. In addition to calling rappers out for their use of the word, start with you family and friends. If 25% of us started doing this, the word would damn near be extinct in ten years. How often do you hear Italians calling each other “Wops or degos”, Asains calling each other “Chinks or slant eyes, Mexicans calling each other “Beaners or wetbacks, you get my point. If a Black person calls you a stinking peice of crap and a White person calls you the same thing, does it make you smell sweeter when the Black person says it? The bottom line here, respect begins at home.

  62. Jackied4581 says:

I don’t feel she said anything wrong. she was just repeating what was said. The N word can be used when it’s regarding a certain topic. So we as African American/black shouldn’t get so uptight when it being said in a certain content.

  63. Willa says:

David, you are a very misinformed person.  The black community does not condone rap music which uses the word NIGGA and profanity.  This is behavior from only a certain section of the black community.  This is not false outrage, I AM outraged!  I don’t listen to or condone this type of behavior and most black folk don’t.  From your post you obviously associate with people of this sort, and you have a low opinion of the black race if you believe your words.

  64. Harold I. Brown says:

I agee, she has no reason to apologize. Our young blacks use nigga everday and say that this is not the same as n-igger, it is. We need to stop worrying so much about a word and get our young Black mmen to pull their pants up and get some kind of education in their heads. I am 66 years old and have lived through a lot of racial bias. We need to focus on more important things like voting. It is a proven fact that we as Blacks will complain, complain, complain, but won’t vote, then when haters and war mongers get elected, what do we do, complain

  65. She has nothing to apologize for.  She was REPORTING and gave warning to the language being very caustic. I can’t believe that we can get bent out of shape over this but very few won’t hold rap artists who use the N-word regularly to the same standard.  We can’t have it both ways anymore not that we did to begin with.

  66. J-twesley says:

What’s the big deal?  She merely quoted what was written in the report!  Let’s get back to business at hand!

  67. J-twesley says:

What’s the big deal?  She merely quoted what was written in the report!  Let’s get back to business at hand!

  68. Japple1167 says:

No. Why would she want to say it

  69. Japple1167 says:

This is ironic. Why would you describe her in this way if you disapprove of her language? This makes no sense.

  70. Tourismhiits says:

This article was a bit misleading perhaps in getting us to read it. She did nothing wrong, save contravening the broadcast stardards. She did not call us by that name; she was merely reporting….

  71.  I don’t think so.  For starters, she warned of the language.  Second, we gave that word that power by glorifying it in hip-hop.  Even Richard Pryor stopped using it when he came back from Africa.  The problem is that it’s ok if we say it but if someone of another race says it, we go ape shit.  And besides, even if she didn’t say it, you can only blur out words for so long.

  72. Ray says:

I agree with you 100% and I am a Mexican American, latino, beaner or what ever! /

  73. V Alderson says:

Amen….we give the word power and then allow ppl to use it against us…..media reactions give it fresh breathe everytime someone throws it out…..as our grandmothers would say…”It aint’ whatcha called, it’s whatcha answer to”

  74. Joycefairman says:

If she knew it was offensive then why repeat what someone else said. Often words that roll of someones lips are words they are use to saying most time in private.

It appears that with all that is going on against Blacks this is not suprising.

  75. Jsmith1233 says:

It’s a black thing to say Nigga “among ourselves”? Candiotti wrong to quote directly? You are useless, whomever you happen to be!

  76. Dredskot says:

There are too many serious issues out there for this to qualify as something worthy of all the vitriol on this page…people, people..it was reported speech and not directed at any one person. If you are offended by this then perhaps you should direct your comments to the rappers (and I love me some hip-hop) who popularized it after centuries of being degraded by it….

  77. Newfocus2000 says:

I agree 100% with David.  I am a mature, Black woman who is not offended by the White reporter who read and quoted the word, “Nigger”.  Candiotti did not need to apologize,  because SHE said nothing out of line.  She even prefaced her quote with a caveat.  .And I, too, am outraged by the filth and the demeaning language that comes out of the mouths of most Black rappers . . . whose “music” Whites and others sing.  We Blacks should not be so sensitive about the harmless use of this word, if we are going allow, with impunity, rappers to use it publicly, prolificly, and for profit. Most good people - whether Black or White or blue – do not understand or appreciate double standards.

  78. Jsmith1233 says:

Ricki, who qualified you to monitor “broadcast standards”? Seriously, get a life! Candiotti reported exactly what was written, and that is fine by me! When millionaire rappers are convinced by sensitive types like you that these words are not appropriate then your outrage will ring much more genuine.

  79. J.D. Hill says:

I believe that the recent Oklahoma random shootings of Blacks may be as much vengeance and retaliatory as it is racial.  Apparently, a Black man was convicted of killing one of the White shooter’s father.  Of course, it does not take racial hatred for one to want to get “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”.

  80. J.D. Hill says:

Problem is that the dummies are killing innocent people.  That’s where the racial hatred may come inot play.

  81. Makar72 says:

How about this David…  Apology accepted and we deal with it on both fronts!  I’m not giving passes to anyone, including my own people.  Why must I have to pay for the ignorance of other black folks over and over?  White folks hate to apologize for anything, i.e., The Zimmermans of this world apologize for nothing!  We are marginalized at every turn by others and ourselves.  Do you think the gay community would have let that pass if it was a slur against them?  …And they jokingly refer to themselves by the F-word all the time.  Women call themselves the B-word all day but you as a man better not call them that!!  In fact I am offended right now by your example of the use of this horrible word!!  Don’t lump all black folks into the same stereotypes EVEN YOU have!!  We all don’t accept or appreciate people, rappers, and whoever uses racial slurs in our own culture!!  We are having to pay for them over and over and over again, but we don’t like it!!

I don’t care if she was reporting!!  She could have found a better way to report if you ask me.

  82. Makar72 says:

I don’t need my children hearing this word reinforced on prime time TV!!  Sorry but reporting it’s use (especially by a lunatic fool who went on a killing spree) is unnecessary.  Why is it that this word is always in the mouth of someone doing a hate crime against black people anyway?  It is because the word in their mouths empowers them to feel justified in killing us!!  The word is an expression of their internal hate!  I am sorry words do hurt!!  Especially in the wrong mouth.  If not why don’t we just go ahead and have our white teachers use it whenever they need to get our children’s attention.  Or why don’t we let our congressman and elected officials who are white go ahead and refer to us by the N-word?

I don’t appreciate rappers, family members, comedians, racist genocidal maniacs, or journalists using the word for the record.

  83. Makar72 says:

Most of us know this!!  It still does not need to be said on the evening news so my young children can hear it coming out of the mouth of a white lady on TV!!

  84. Makar72 says:

Why are we rushing to defend this woman??  She can defend herself and take the heat!  I for one find it refreshing to see someone have to apologize for something.  No one (including Zimmerman) is apologizing for anything these days!  She gets paid to take the heat.  I am sure blogs all over the country are filled with white folk who feel she was not wrong and want us to get over it!!  It was her choice to report the story that way, so let her take the heat!!  I am sick of black folks, in their attempt to be fair, feeling the need to defend everybody!  Some things require better judgement!  That word in the mouth of a television personality on the evening news is unnecessary.  Find a better way to report!

I hope that we can raise children with better judgement than this present generation who use the word at every turn.  I hope my grandchildren will have better sense!!!

  85. Miller19917 says:

    Because she is a racist

  86. Angel says:

You are the ignantazzknucklehead. I did not see anything written about the black males who kill each other like crazy 24/7. Nobody kills black people like black people.

  87. Angel says:

    Amen

  88. she was reading a quote and there is no reason to believe she shares the same sentiments.

  89. Ashley says:

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW. This is what the world is coming to,. Let’s not repeat history. I get she was quoting somebody else’s facebook post but lets be respectful. She knew she would catch heat for this……………………..I hate the fact that people use this word and I hate the fact that us black folk use it to call each other. It’s a derogatory word PERIOD

  90. A. Davis says:

    Really????

  91. A. Davis says:

What about heavy metal music that mostly promotes santanic worship and suicide..rap has nothing to do with this..it still was wrong. I don’t like rap music but this lady is supposed to be a professional speaker and she just made an a** of herself…period.

  92. Tiffani says:

Why should this reporter be fired? She reported. Hate crimes are done by mentality of thinking. His FB words were relevant. He did not say N word. She read the words written – completely appropriate in this context.

  93. A. Davis says:

    I agree with you a 100%!!!

  94. Crosscoma7 says:

No apology needed but why report it in the first place.  It is not news.

  95. Tiffani says:

Well written Mr. Brown. Very well written!

  96. EdDrky says:

Don’t like the headline…makes it sound like she said it. She doesn’t make the news, she just reports it. And, in this case, she was engaging in accurate reporting, and she did warn viewers that something ugly was coming. Maybe people need to hear that more…I mean, in cases like this, when someone uses an ugly slur (no matter whom it is against), it should be said. Maybe then people will realize just how ugly and ignorant it sounds.

  97. Mrsadams1207 says:

    She enjoyed it!

  98. Tngoodpucci says:

LOOK IF ITS A DUCK THAN SAY DUCK, IF ITS A DOG SAY DOGS, STOP TRYIN TO PULL THE BLINDERS DOWN OVER TOP YOUR EYES MARKAR72 IT IT WHAT THE FUCK IT IS. NOW GOOD BYE AND KEEP IT 100

  99. Tiffani says:

Look to the mirror sir. Oft, what we see in others is just the reflection of what we see of ourselves…

  100. Juliawright says:

true that it dont make seance we have came along way its time to stop calling     the nigger word but there will never stop saiding that word

  101. Mrsadams1207 says:

How come African American’s don’t slip and say fkn hunkey, or white trash, and then apologize for it???

  102. ThatOne says:

She was just repeating what SOMEONE ELSE said.. an she warned the audience before she said it..She didnt just come out an blatantly said it to offend..

  103. Chris Be says:

there is no need to apologize…she was quoting the words of  someone else. she was doing her job..that’s it…..let it go

  104. Mrsadams1207 says:

N*gger is and always will be a white racist word. Except now everyone refers to black people as N*gger across the globe. I see so many ugly and nasty racist comments online from nonblack people and not necessarily white people. On different websites’ and on FB It’s like no matter how hard Black people try to better themselves the world still looks at them as nothings. And are so disrespectful towards them WHY?

  105. Her “choice” in the the style of presentation of “the news” is indicative of how she truly feels.  Wake up people!

  106. Mrsadams1207 says:

Black people didn’t create the word.

  107. Tiffani says:

Umm, I must respectfully disagree.Black folks, all folks are listening. Rap music is very mainstream. Not only does the continued glorification of of calling out nigga – I used a not er – so it’s okay, right? But the images of lavish lifestyles, degrading depiction of women, whoremongering, etc. desensitizes all that view/hear this of deeper issues BEYOND the music…  we speak to our leaders and entertainers much the same – with our vote. Voting with going to the booth or choosing what we spend our money on.

  108. Mrsadams1207 says:

There is a difference between a Black man referring to his friend as his Nigga than someone that isn’t of African descent calling you a Fuckin Nigger! It’s meant to be hurtful stop playing Dumb, Dummy.

  109. Mrsadams1207 says:

There is a difference between a Black man referring to his friend as his Nigga than someone that isn’t of African descent calling you a Fuckin N*gger! It’s meant to be hurtful stop playing Dumb

  110. Mrsadams1207 says:

There is a difference between a Black man referring to his friend as his Nigga than someone that isn’t of African descent calling you a Fuckin N*gger! It’s meant to be hurtful stop playing Dumb

  111. RochesterApril says:

MY THING IS IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BLACK PPL AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH POSITIVE WE DO OUT HERE WHITE PPL IS ALWAYS GOIN USE THAT WORD NO MATTER WHAT ALL!!!!!! BECAUSE IT’S SO EASY FOR THEM TO SAY THEY GIVEN USE IT ON OUR PRESIDENT DON’T EVEN WANT TO GIVE HIM RESPECT SO THERE’S KNOW EXCUSES FOR IT KNOW MATTER WHAT!!!!!

  112. alston green says:

I agree with David, we have given whites the permission to use this derogatory language. Then are incenses when that use it. However ,I am sick and tired of there so called apologies when they are caught suing this vile language. Apology not accepted !!

  113. Adural301 says:

Ya can’t always repeat what an “asshole” who just killed someone says.. Then the new age kids of this world will be “wild” with foolishness

  114. Jaime Perdue says:

All she did was report facts that were stated and related to the incident.  It’s not like she went on a racial tirade on live television.

  115. Angelizs says:

David Ppl calling each other the N word …. Has nothing to do w/ rap music or T.v shows. It starts in the home 1st…… REMEMBER that

  116. Faulk06 says:

SO Why Are we still talking about these! As a people we act as these does happen everyday.Black people did not create the word. But yet we use the word. WOW just Stop using the word all together. One on thing Please stop comparing Black people an Gay.That is truly getting old!

  117. Mitzi Greene says:

I am not offended because she is a newsperson and is quoting someone. It’s in very poor taste that she felt the need to repeat the quote, but her apology is enough for me.

  118. Bcrpresident says:

Harold I see your point to a certain extent, however to justify aborant behavior of an adult, by pointing out a pervasive wrong of young knuckleheads, is not apples to apples my brother

  119. Bcrpresident says:

Yolanda, if a Black reporter had said f#ckin Cracker  wether quoted or not it would be equally wrong and offensive!

  120. Bcrpresident says:

Since when are rappers stanrd setters for black people. To try and use this anology is without merit or intelligent forbearance

  121. chops says:

They suspended Roland Martin for his comment about gays, which was a much lighter comment, yet CNN did not suspend her or the other person who did it.  This was the second time in 3 weeks! I  think that CNN and it’s several of its newscasters have clearly moved to the Right! If you think politics and racism is not involved, you should stop and listen to several of them and the negativity they dish out about the President, as well as the black community.  Have you not noticed that they have more Republicans/Teapartiers on CNN than Independents or Democrats? I understand that they are in competition with FOX news, and it appears that CNN is no longer in the middle with unbiased news reporting.Stop, look, and listen people! This was no accident, this is them being sly!I’m just saying!

  122. Bcrpresident says:

So why not simple say f-en N word?

  123. BlueKid says:

It doesn’t matter who invented it, it’s the meaning of the word, do you get what it means???  Black people didn’t created the word Bit@h, but we know what it means.

  124. Makar not all White Fokes hates to Apologize..Cause when I am in the wrong I will no matter who they are. I am white and I hate the N word now matter who you are. I have told people I wish GOD would have made us all one color or color blind. Cause even tho I do see color I look pass that I look into there Hearts. No matter how a person was in the pass I am not here to JUDGE anyone That is GOD’S Job!!! But if people would learn to just start caring then the WORLD would be a better place. When 9/11 happen it seemed like we were ALL standing with each other as 1. What happen to that why does it take something bad to happen to stand together. I don’t care who you are what color you are or where your from as a CHRISTIAN in my EYES we are all Brothers & Sisters in the EYES of GOD!!! And all of us needs to wake up and understand that no matter who you hate not saying you do but just talking to anyone. When you die weather you go to HEAVEN or HELL you will see and still be with them people you HATE but at least in HEAVEN there will be no more Hate. But you do have some very GOOD POINTS!!! All I can say is be PROUD of who you are & where you come from and don’t let no one bring you down.

  125. Makar72 says:

Look just cause you have mouth doesn’t mean you need to open it and say everything that comes to your mind! I’m not even sure I understand what you mean!?! “KEEP IT 100″??? Freakin give me a break!! Do me a favor… Make sense!!!

  126. Teonnaht says:

I’m a black woman I’m giving her a pass if she is not free to quote than what the hell has the world come to.

  127. TampaActivist says:

    INTERESTING

  128. Mddawg says:

We need to listen to our selves and determine who’s the real racist. Ignorant!!

  129. Tariq says:

I don’t understand how some people in this conversation are interpreting this statement by the CNN commentator. You have to look at the context in which the statement was made. She did not call anyone a “F*cking N*igger! That would be a racist statement! She was reporting what someone else said about black people. In the case of Roland Martin, he was making a personal statement about gays! He was not reporting what someone else said about gays! There is a huge difference when you look at the context in which the statements were made. And, I don’t think anyone is apologizing for this woman, I think people are just making reasonable arguments about the context of the statement; something I think a lot of people are ignoring or simply missing in their argument. As a 69 year old African-American who faced overt, raw racism as the first of my race to attend a certain college in California (a private Christian school)–I am fully aware of racism as most of us are—this however, does not pass the litmus test. But, it seems that some of us want to make this something that it clearly is not!

  130. Well, well.

  131. Why does everyone have to make everything about race? Just because I’m white doesn’t automatically make me racist.  In fact, most of the people I’ve met that ARE racist, are NOT WHITE.

  132. MickeyMouse77 says:

Shame on her.  History, History, History!!

  133. mremanj2 says:

There is “zero” difference between the two. The use of the word in any form indicates a high level of ignorance and so does your comment.

  134. Chollyem says:

No need for apology Susan… I understand. They were not your words They were of a racial bigot. I for one forgive you.

  135. Call Me Earl says:

This is dumb. She’s reporting idiots. Why should she apologize for reading a quoted statement?

  136. Makar72 says:

So every time some fool uses a racial slur we need to hear it recited by a reporter or journalist?!?  That is how we “KEEP IT 100″!?!  Here is a clue… Just because you have a mouth and are old enough to say whatever does not mean you need to open it do that!  Judgement comes with maturity..  Why be so immature?  This… “KEEP IT 100″… culture is all about not caring about anything but what you have to say!!  It is foolish.

Richard Pryor used the N-word all the time in his shows.  He went to Africa, came back and said he would never use that word again.  Why??  Did he suddenly have a crisis of conscience or epiphany in Africa?  Maybe, but he also knew it was wrong and ignorant to keep saying what racists have used as a means to demoralize, kill and, rape us for over 300 years!!  He realized the WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT!!

I am…  KEEPING IT 100… now by saying Apology accepted!!

  137. Makar72 says:

Here we go…  Whoever originally came up with that explanation should be forever titled a fool!!

  138. Makar72 says:

Slippery slope my friend…  It is not appropriate language for prime time…  Period!!  and especially in this context!!  Black people have been killed here and we need to hear the language from the killer!!!!  What about the families of those who were killed?  Do you think they need to hear this language rehearsed back???

  139. Makar72 says:

And nobody kills white people like white people either…  The only ones who are not outraged by this black on black crime are the ones who are doing it!!  Most of us are sick and tired of a group of fools who don’t care about life at all and want to take us out with their rage!

  140. Makar72 says:

     And so are you!!

  141. Makar72 says:

I don’t ever use it!!  I wonder if the script was flipped how it would have went over.  I wonder if some Neo-Nazi went on a killing spree of Jews would hearing exactly what the killer said have been appreciated on the evening news by the Jewish community!?!

I tell you what…  let’s applaud her for her wonderful and professional way she does her job!  We really need to hear those words spat back at us at every turn!!

I tell you times have changed…  Black people defending the word F-n N*gger (for whatever the reason!!!!) in the mouth of a white person.  Look how far we have come!!!  This Boondocks generation is too much!!

  142. Caeier says:

I bet you pray to a white jesus.

  143. RobertMIII says:

    And?????

  144. Jimi P says:

Thank you Makar for acknowledging that all blacks do not like the N-word. I hate the word and refuse to allow anyone to say it in my presence.

  145. Jimi P says:

Sounds like this newslady wanted big ratings ofor CNN or drama. It was not necessary for her to repeat something so offensive to get a point across. That was not professional at all. Well maybe not blatant but sure as hell not the right thing to do or say.

  146. Gregostrand says:

What’s said is said! If she didn’t feel this way she never would have said it. No use in apologizing. The damage is already done! It’s like cyber space! It will always be there! Should have kept her thoughts to herself! Apology “NOT” accepted here! It’s too late!

  147. Insulted! says:

I am more insulted than anyone! I have Black friends and employers! I love them very Dearly! Like I said, you should have kept your thoughts to yourself! /;-

  148. Mary says:

That’s also unfortunate that some of our Black people refer to each other as “Nigga/Nigger.”  Just because one tries to create a positive use of the “N” word or even spell it differently, does not take the sting away from the word’s original intent–to denigrate the Black race.  We remain ignorant by virtue of claiming that word for our people.  So the reality is that it is hurtful no matter what ethnic, cultural, or racial group is keeping the term alive in this day and age.

  149. Blacksouth says:

People should say what they want to say. Folks already know in what context it is being used. If it is used in a racial context we (black people) know. If someone says it in on offensive manner they should expect to get the hell slapped out of them. I for one don’t believe it should be used in any context such as a term of endearment ( “My nigga” which I never understood and again I am black.) or as a slur “Nigger”, but We as Americans enjoy the freedom of speech. Use it wisely.

  150. Hakeem says:

David, you were evidently educated … sorry mis-educated ….in a white supremist blame “yourselfs while excusing others” school system. Like your white masters ….. I mean teachers ….. you act as if Rap Artist have been anointed by us to be our spokespersons. “Uncle” David, did you know more WHITE youth buy Rap Albums which are distributed by WHITE record companies? Of course you (a evidently self hating Negro) didnt know any of this or else your comments wouldny have been so …… ummmmm … stupid. Lesson #1 “Uncle” David, we are not our own worst enemy as Brother Malcolm …. Im sorry ….. Malcolm X …… you have at least heard of him? ….. well …. he once asked us the question who taught you how to hate ourself? You and the Rap artist you referenced evidently graduated with honors from their school … i.e. the white supremist i.e. our genuine worst enemy.  Wake up “Uncle” David.

  151. ReallyReel says:

Ive read many of these blogs about this issue. It worries me that the educated blacks all think its okay to say the n word on t.v..They scare me because when my mother went to school in the 50′s. When the schools where first being segrigated. The reporters had to report news in a more racially charged atmosphere. They did not call a race of people out of there names while reporting news.. It wasnt okay when Martin was marching and its not okay now that our President is black.. Quit siding with white folks who call people the n words. White people have no right to say it.. in my presents or to report something.. If you wanted to Read what was said in the report, then you needed look it up yourself.. You do have the education to look things up right?..You should be educated  enough to know that you sound foolish. We need to be fully aware of our history with this word.. Thats the problem to me right there. Blacks are concoured people.. Its alot of black saxtons out there..They have a white education and belive in white Jesus…Forgettin that the role for education as a black whould be self betterment, to play a more positive role in family and community.  Not to start siding up with people who say the n word. For the record as a Rapper…..I sing R/B as well.. I make music for the streets..  I dont care about the fame and glory.. Rappers are not the spokesman people for anyone. No religion political stand or anything else… Its sounds like everyone respects the power of a voice. Its apparent that you are picking and chosing a rappers value to this world. When all they are doing is good music..Dont buy it and dont listen to it. They dont say the n words on the radio in Kansas City…Because rappers say the n word means any white personnell can say it??? I dont hear white rappers saying the n word in there raps..Yet they make a large percentage of the rap industy. Along with Jewish,Arab,Chineese,Cuban and others who come from a ghetto some where. You keep persecuting the poor in every turn of your tongue..If your helpin people and showing love to people, for people then your comments would reflect that. They dont show any love for one another. Please remane quite on your personal journey in this hell whole we call Earth..We do not value a haters opinion..People would be able to smack us with hurtfull words and hurt us as much as they want. Just because you dont care about it doesnt give the situation any power. Its plenty of people the care and thats enough for me. So just keep working alone side of people, being the only black in your job calling your self educated and thinking you finally made it. You dont have the right to speak for me..

  152. Nita says:

    NOT ACCEPTABLE

  153. Mnyama says:

    I agree….

  154. jim_bob_jones says:

I disagree.. the word has ONE meaning!!! Either its ok to say it or its NOT ok to say it, regardless of the race of the speaker… Blacks need to figure out something else to be pissed off about..

  155. jim_bob_jones says:

If n*gger is a white racist word, why do so many blacks use it in every day conversation and music? Blacks can’t have it both ways, either its ok or its not ok… Please make up your minds what you want to be mad about..

  156. Lawrence says:

When Black people learn to tune-out institutions (CNN,FOX,Shan Hannity, etc) and learn to watch and listen to peole and information that’s in our best interest at hand such as MSNBC,1310 AM and DR C Anderson Young etc,we as a people will remain and contiue to perish. IT IS SO SAD WHAT WE AS BLACK PEOPLE ALLOW AND ACCEPT NOT ONLY FROM OTHER PEOPLE BUT ALSO FROM OUR OWN! PEACE

  157. James Sartin says:

What’s the up roar, It happen all the time!

  158. wanda says:

look people nigga is a word of ignorance some people take it out of contence for meaning black but really it means ignorsnte so being black or white green or purple if you use the word you are ignorant.

  159. wanda says:

Look people nigger is a word of ignorance some poeple take it out of contence for being bmeaning black but the word means ignorant. so being black white red or purple if you use the word you ignorant.

  160. MACK says:

Please get a grip.Try shopping with African Americans instead of worrying about something so unimportant. When you spend your money, do so with other black people.Look for them when you shop.Especially when purchasing big ticket items like homes, cars appliances and electronics. Doing so could make an economic differenceNon blacks stick together and support one another. We still have not learned that and seem to distrust fellow African Americans.

  161. mmdccbslm says:

I’m glad she said it. it shines the light on the feelings of the murderers. the truth of it should not be softened by correctness. that sumbeyotch KKKILLED three people in cold blood.

  162. mmdccbslm says:

    @wanda, CONTENCE? or CONTEXT?
the word means BLACK, derived from the spanish word negro for black. and if you look up where the colonial plan came from, you’ll discover that spain was the first euro country to use the bible to justify slavery.

  163. itsashame says:

    Smh

  164. Anonymous says:

People stated that it was a quote, not here words.. How in hell can someone get made.. Maybe they sould have blotted out the words in this story..

  165. CeCe62 says:

Instead of worrying about the “N” word let’s get focused on Blacks getting their life in order. When you have students graduating from high school and read on a 5th grade level, the system is against our sisters and brothers, and YOU don’t even know it. Privatized jails are sitting back waiting for our young brothers. Pull your pants up and put some knowlege in your brain. Black folks can defifnitely be their own worst enemy. Stop complaining and stop degrading women. Your brain is too full of junk and that includes food too. Don’t let 1 word work you up! Are you registered to vote? Let the GOP take the White House and Congress, you haven’t seen hell. WAKE UP PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!

  166. Princess P. says:

It was wrong to say it, period. There is no justification in it. Regardless, if she was reading someone else’s words. It was wrong and insensitive and she should apologize for it. Obviously, it is not the first or last time she will say that word. We need to discuss why rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye feel it is okay to say it in their songs. That’s a problem also.

  167. Melissa says:

As most people know, there are many words that are not permitted on air. The word Nigger aside (but not less important), she shouldn’t even have repeated the word F*cking on the air. Journalists know better and she’s a seasoned one. NO excuse for this.
