ONE witness saw this, when the woman whose witnessed it from her backyard says it wasn’t true. Zimmerman was told not to follow him and the screams for help that were heard stopped immediately after the shot was fired. Do you scream for help before you fire a gun? Would you stop afterward? If I think that someone I shot was able to still be alive afterward then I’m still asking for someone to help or call 911.
There were no bruises or physical evidence that Zimmerman was bullied into the position that you claim he was. Not to mention the fact that this individual is almost 100 pounds heavier than the “suspect” and has combat training. There are too many suspicions thrown in there for me to say that there is in anyway possible for Zimmerman to legally claim self defense.
As far as convicts and 20 years of convictions… there’s doubt there too because you have numerous people who have been put in prison with little to no evidence outside of *again* the color of their skin. Just as with the situation with Troy Davis where just about all of the witnesses who had recanted their statements and yet the sentence was still carried out. How about the fact that eye witness testimony is wrong 2/3 of the time when the perpetrator is of a different racial or ethnic makeup. So for someone to mistake a full grown man’s cries for help with a teenaged boy would be asinine to believe, not to mention the fact that the girlfriend was on the phone and heard confrontation and the phone was knocked out of his hand.

Rules and laws have been established in this country, and they are meant to be followed for anyone and everyone who is a member of this country. This man should be charged with murder in the 1st degree, because this man chased and hunted down this young black man, and when he found this unarmed young black man, shot him down like someone out hunting deer or something!

The recent pictures of Trayvon now being circulated by white right-winger’s, are for the eyes of people who will ultimately comprise a Jury in this case. Law Enforcement will eventually arrest Zimmerman; charge him with Manslaughter or Murder and then pile on some lessor charges in an effort to make something stick. All of which; will be far less than the appropriate Hate Crime;Capital Murder Charge. The Judge will then allow the Defense Attorney’s to strike as many Black candidates as they wish, while ignoring objections from the Prosecution. They’ll finally select an all white, or majority white-male Jury to hear the case. For appearances sake only; the Jury may contain one or two useless Asian, Hispanic, or Black Jurors. They’ll eventually find that bigot Zimmerman guilty of a lessor charge, and sentence him to no-time, or very little jail time. What we all need to do is prepare for the worse case scenario; NO ARREST AT ALL, but frankly I don’t know how to prepare for this kind of outcome.
Zimmermann (2 n’s) is the German spelling & Zimmerman is the more common spelling both in Europe, USA & Latin America. Could be mixed Jewish & then again he might not be. Any phone book in most Latin American countries lists many people with Zimmerman as a last name. Last names like Zimmerman are especially common in South America with a large German immigrant population & mixed marriages with Latinos. Remember, Hispanic is not a race it is an ability to speak Spanish. Most Latinos speak Spanish but not all Hispanics are Latino. In this case obviously the suspect is of a mixed heritage just like there are many Blacks in Latin America with Latino surnames. Who said that it wasn’t OK to shoot Trayvon just because he was so cute? Who justifies a call for justice just because he was some sort of angel? Doesn’t every citizen of this country deserve JUSTICE? What a bunch of screwups people show themselves to be.
To my view, here was an adult, 200 pound man with a “9mm” firearm, following a younger, black, smaller unarmed and ALONE not yet adult young man. The adult was non-Black. The child, Black (We all know that many from other races, white or not, dislike Blacks). Why was he following the young man? What did he DO that appeared to be suspicious? Was it simply racial profiling?
The adult was supposed to be some sort of neighborhood watch volunteer, but do we know if he had some sort of legal authority to pursue and/or question another private citizen? Did he identify himself as such? I gather that he didn’t. Put yourself in Trayvon’s place. What would your thoughts be if you were a lone Black child in a strange neighborhood with a big White man following you? (I don’t care Zimmerman’s racial background. In this situation, I see the White man being the aggressor. He was aggressive in the simple act of following the young man in such an obvious way that the child noticed it and asked him “Why”. This gave Zimmerman the opportunity to identity his official status and give reason. Instead, in his arrogance, he answered the child’s question with a question. “What are you doing here?”
Let’s be reasonable. At this point, wouldn’t YOU feel threatened? I’m sure Trayvon did. So, how ever the altercation began, IF it began with Trayvon, I feel he was justified, whatever he looked like, whatever his background, whatever his race!!! It was nighttime, he was alone, he was a Black child in a White area, in Florida, and there was a big White man following him. Please!!! Trayvon had the right to be where he was doing what he was doing, dressed as he was, and that was not disturbing anyone’s peace, but Zimmerman’s. Zimmerman may have been justified in watching, but that is all he should have done. Approaching the young man was not something he should have done, and, I gather, that the police asked him not to. What’s the holdup here? Arrest the man!!! Do justice! IF this man cried, it is probably because he has realized the error of his way in this incidence. I hope he sheds many more tears for a very long time. Taking the life of another human being is not something that should be taken lightly. In fact, when policemen kill, don’t they have to be counseled for a period of time, prior to resuming their duties on the street? Zimmerman was allowed to go home with none of that.
When I first heard what the media reported about Trayvon, I thought it was ridiculous that Zimmerman killed that young man. Then, about a week later on the Drudge Report, I found out that there was a witness to what REALLY happened. The witness saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman, beating the crap out of him! Getting your ass beat doesn’t make it appropriate to fatally shoot your attacker, but it at least makes me understand what Zimmerman was thinking when he squeezed the trigger. I think that 9 out of 10 Americans who had a pistol on them, would shoot someone if they were viciously assaulting them. When you’re getting your face smashed in, as Zimmerman was, you absolutely think your going to die. The stand-your-ground-law make it legal to use deadly force if you think that your life is in danger. Zimmerman understandably thought his life was in danger.

It seems to me that Mr. Zimmerman stalked and attacked Trayvon Martin, after he was commanded “not to pursue” the youth. As a black person, I am outraged that an innocent youth was murdered. I live close enough to the ghetto, that I hear gunshots on a regular basis. He could have unwisely attacked George, but I understand George provoked Trayvon by chasing him when the police told him not to do so. We need more facts before we draw a complete conclusion. It has not been determined, and I suspect never will, whether Trayvon was indeed casing houses or not.
Trayvons mistake, whether he was up to criminal activity or not, was thinking that someone following him was an open license to, according to the eye witness, assault some one.
The law as of date does not ban generic following as illegal unless its stalking or harassing. Following a suspicious person is not banned by law.
The law does ban assualting someone. Someone following you for an undetermind reason is not considered justification for assault and battery.
This is a tragic shooting and it seems atleast with the bery little details we are privledged to that it is a case where a young person of 17 learned a very hard lesson.

If your being followed lead your pursuer to the near police officer you can find.
I would like to say not following others you think are suspicious is a lesson, but a Neighborhood Watch should be allowed to observe and report to some degree. Thats the point of a neighborhood watch. But definately they should stay in the car.
Still even if Zimmerman put himself in that situation, it does not then mean he loses right to live free of harm, and as long as he did not assault Trayvon himself, and it was trayvon who was the aggressor, then Zimmerman is justified in defending himself.

I think those pics are of a Trayvon Martin of Atlanta. I don’t think that they are the same Trayvon Martin from Fl. However, it doesn’t matter what he looked like. If these are fake pics it just highlights how racist this country is. I wish some white people would understand how we as black people have to act differently in certain situations. I’m sorry Skinnyguy, but what did Belkin say that offended you so much and makes you feel that he is a racist? I read his post and I don’t understand where your anger stems from. He said “Some” not all white people and he consistently categorized the racist ones. Using absolute terms when it comes to people of color however is a very normal occurrence. How many “white” people have had a run in with a black person and suddenly they decide that “All” blacks are this way? It happens far more often than it does if the perpetrator is white. They don’t lump “All” white people together for the crimes of one. This is what we face everyday. So, if you don’t fall in the category of being a racist who happens to be white, then he is not talking about you sweetheart. The ugly truth is that black people do encounter these racist types more often than white people who live their “unaffected by Black People’s Problems” lives would believe, and I’m sorry to say that typically the racists are “white”. The question you should be asking is why Zimmerman approached Trayvon in the first place and why when he was specifically told not to follow Trayvon he did so anyway. If he had injury it was because Trayvon defended himself like you or anyone else would if accosted by a civilian with no authority who questioned you.

As for the idea that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman, the 911 tapes clearly speak to the contrary. Zimmerman followed Trayvon, not the other way around hon. He was probably defending himself the way that you would want your child who is being attacked to do. My nephew wears hoodies and takes silly pictures like these and posts on Facebook and he’s an honor roll student. Kids think that those pictures make them look cool. In my day we wore and did things that my mother didn’t think was cute anymore than I think the youth of today’s pictures are cute, but let’s not cloud the issue. Trayvon was NOT the aggressor in this tragic event. Zimmerman followed, approached and murdered Trayvon. Even if Trayvon refused to do or respond to anything Zimmerman asked or said, Trayvon did not have the responsibility to reply and Zimmerman didn’t have any authority to force him. Even cops have to mirandize suspects upon arrest and the suspects don’t have to say anything. Zimmerman went against direct orders not to follow Trayvon of which he ignored because he wants to be a cop so freakin’ bad. So what, a vigilante like Zimmerman has more authority than the law? I think not and justice must prevail in this unfortunate situation.

Angus, as a former govt worker the majority of people on welfare now are white, which includes white Hispanics and aa few Asians as well as European immigrants. Also, white girls are having more teen pregnancies. As far as other countries, I have been to a few and was always treated very cordial and in some instances they were overly friendly to me. I think more blacks should visit other countries and realize they are very welcome there. I have a friend who lived in Germany 20 years. When her dad retired as a young woman she stayed, married another black there and raised their family. She moved back to the states a few years back to aid her mom, but her kids (all 4) have made Germany home. So, talk what you know, not what you hear or think.

If Trayvon was seen on top of Zimmermann its because he followed Trayvon and approached him. Trayvon may have punched Zimmermann and fought him, but it’s because Zimmermann pursued and approached him. Zimmermann ultimately shot Trayvon and killed him. Who brings a gun to a fist fight? Moreover, Zimmermann apporached Trayvon after racially profiling him as described on the call to 911. Trayvon was a teenager, what black or urban teen doesn’t dress and take photos as he did? Even suburban teens who are non-blacks dress and take photographs as Trayvon. Wow, the whole problem here is that people are still drawing lines between races. I am a white women and by no means racist. I hate that both caucasion and african americans are still at war over race. There is so much hate. I can’t stand it. Anytime a child dies is horrifying but I do believe Zimmerman deserves the same rights as everyone else. No one was there that night. No one knows if Zimmerman indeed felt threatened. I am not justifying his actions but I think people should get all the facts in a case before assuming it was racially motivated. There is always 3 sides to every story yours, his and the truth.
The truth of the matter: a child is dead! And what should not be considered is race because the bottom line is this: until it happens to you or someone close in their family then that is when true pain is felt. I am voicing my opinion only because I read alot of these comments and we are hating on each other like one of us committed the crime. He may have been a stranger in the neighborhood that Zimmerman did not know, but I feel he wanted to play hero regardless of a order he was given, “Do not”. Had Zimmerman followed that order, Trayvon would have gone where he was going, which was to his father’s girlfriends house, but Zimmerman is partly the blame, because following someone does not mean you are threatened, but it could make the person you are following feel threatened. This is why he was asked not to follow. I have been married to a police officer (now retired) for over 25 years now, and when an officer is suspicious of you, they watch you first, and then get your attention to stop you. Zimmerman reported Trayvon looking suspicious (ice tea and skittles), hoodie and on the phone walking (not just standing there). What was suspicious about that. I don’t know if he is a racist, but it was a racist move he made. He was trying to play hero, and this is the end result. A teenager, who could have been anyone’s son was killed. Whether he meant to kill him or not. He claims it was self defense on someone who was unarmed. I don’t believe it was necessarily a race issue. I believe it was retaliation against Trayvon, because Tray was winning the fight, and without thinking he pulled the trigger. Instead of lying and trying to cover it up, he should admit he made an error and be man enough to take whatever punishment due him. He can’t shoot and kill someone’s child and think you should run and hide from it. Trayvon’s mother and any other mother in America deserve an explanation on any acts against a family member, and it should not matter what race this victim was. He was an unarmed human being. There were a lot of errors Zimmerman made on his approach, whereas with the right approach he would have known he was visiting someone. Zimmerman says he was hit in the head, but video tape of him getting out of police car showed no blood or wounds to his head, so you have to know that there is no family in America that would let this go without an explanation. The Sanford police did not take any pictures of the crime, did not collect any evidence, did not put any yellow tape around the crime scene, and did not frisk Zimmerman at the crime scene because otherwise, they would not have had to frisk him when they arrived at the crime scene. Why not, if that is their Standard operating Procedure (SOP) to frisk anyone before you put them in your vehicle. Remember the question always asked at the scene, do you have anything on you that when I search you can stick me? Goggle it?

2. No visible injury to his head

4. The police said, stop, do not get out of the safety of your vehicle and go after and follow this young man, Zimmerman said, o.k..

This young man was walking, a white man got out of his vehicle (of safety) and when after this young man who (was doing nothing but walking in the rain) and ZIMMERMAN went after him with a gun that was already cocked and then shot him.
The police said, are you following him (which means Mr. Martin was in front of Zimmerman), Zimmerman said yes, the police said—we do not need you to do this, and Zimmerman said o.k. This would mean that Zimmerman would have to turn away from Mr. Treyvon Martin to go back to his car.
Now, your question should be:
When Zimmerman (GOT OUT OF THE SAFETY OF HIS VEHICLE) was following (that means the young man was in front of him and Zimmerman’s vehicle was to his back) this child when the police said, stop, we do not need you to do that. Zimmerman told the police o.k.
Now, when Zimmerman said o.k. to the police and turned around to go back to his vehicle as Zimmerman told the police, why would a child who does not know this man who was bigger than him and following him (and could have been an abductor, sex offender, or someone who just wanted to have his way with this young black man); go after a grown man to beat him up and then say to him, like Zimmermans dad said Treyvon Martin said to his son….you are going to die tonight. What is he going to kill him with, a drink bottle and skittles? The young man was 17 years old, how can this young man go from walking home from the store in the rain with a protection over his head, talking to his girlfriend and now, run after a grown man to assault him? WHY???

I am a Black who has no problem with the system. It’s the folk inside who run the system that’s the problem! If the same rules are applied to everyone equally, then the system would be as close to perfect as it could get. But folk who run the system sometimes apply the rules unequally, thereby infuriating those who are denied justice.
Civilian dispatchers are TRAINED to advise for the safety of all concerned. But that civilian Dufus, Zimmerman, should have had enough common sense not to get out of his vehicle with a gun and follow HIS “suspect”. Had a Black or true Hispanic neighborhood watch captain been told by the 911 civil dispatcher to stay in his vehicle, s/he would have had sense enough to do so.
