A woman in California was stuck in the airport for eight days when she didn’t have enough money to pay the baggage fee. She was leaving California to start a new life in Idaho, but that new life got off to a very bad start.
Terri Weissinger said that she had only $30 in her pocket after she got her ticket off Orbitz. The US Airways staff had no sympathy for her as they told her to hit the road if she didn’t have the last $30. When she offered to leave her suitcase behind the person behind the counter wouldn’t allow it. They also told her that she couldn’t pay when she arrived at her destination.
“I found a little stairway and I lay on the floor and slept there,” she said.
Terri missed her flight, and the next day, the airport told her that her next flight would cost over $1,000.
“I was tired, hungry, dirty” she told a local TV station.
After a while, she finally saw an ad for an Airport Church of Christ, who helped her to raise the money to get home.
“We have apologized to Ms. Weissinger for her experience, but unfortunately are unable to offer a refund. When you purchase a non-refundable ticket, you accept the terms and conditions. If a passenger cannot travel with their bags, they need to make other arrangements,” a spokesperson for US Airways said.
