Michigan State University is on fire after a series of racially-motivated incidents have taken place on the campus.  Most recently, a sign that says “No Ni**ers Please” put on the women’s restroom has become the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

“The incident that really jump-started this movement was an incident at Akers Hall where someone wrote ‘No Ni**ers, please’ on a door of a young lady’s room,” said Mario Lemons, the president of the MSU Black Student Alliance (BSA). “The residence life staff told us not to talk about. Of course, someone took a picture of it and sent it to one of us.”

Over 1,000 students gathered in Conrad Hall to discuss racial tension on the campus and how to resolve it.

“We put it on Facebook and Twitter and started a dialog about it,” said Lemons. “From that came more stories of other people going through things on campus.”

There was another story of a black doll being hung with a noose outside the chemistry lab in September.

“There are people overtly saying the n-word,” said Lemons. “People telling other students that they don’t belong here, saying that they only got here because of Affirmative Action. Very unwelcoming things done to black people on campus.”

The students say that Tinisha Sharp was the target of the chemistry lab incident.  She also saw a racial slur written on a dry-erase board.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said Sharp. “It was very surprising to see a message like that. I really thought this type of discrimination had been ceased by this time. But I guess not.”

A statement was soon released by Lou Anna K. Simon via email:

“The University supports free speech including the use of words that are offensive to most in our community,” Simon said. “However, given the nature of these incidents, the MSU police were immediately contacted and the matter has been turned over to them to investigate, not only as a form of vandalism, but also as potential ethnic intimidation. I am personally awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.”

“In my many years at MSU, this rash of incidents at various parts of the campus in such a short timeframe is unmatched, is extraordinarily troubling and creates a legitimate concern that all of us must address.”

Only people who’ve had their heads in the sand, could actually think these types of incidents do not occur any more. Indeed, they don’t understand what Racism actually is. Racism is about the power to negatively impact people lives. It effects all areas of people activity, from politics, law, the Justice system, Health Care,  Access to Higher Educational, The negative images subliminally and overtly perpetrated and perpetuated in the media i.e. radio, television, movies, music industry and music videos, etc. Racism white-Supremacy has never gone anywhere. It is alive and well. For those who doubt what I’m saying is true read these books. Please! Let’s Stop being Suprise by this Foolishness, Racist Is Always Going To Be Around Til We Leave This Earth; It’s So Sad That You Still Have Some Parents Still Passing This Type Of Behavior Down To The Next Generation, So Don’t Be Suprise, It would have been better if the Campus had Video Camera’s Around to Catch the person doing this bad behavior,..I’m Just Over this mess,..I don’t even let it bother me anymore, some people are just low down and evil, I just turn it over to Jesus:)

  6. mowondi says:

I wonder if their ‘No Ni$$ers Please’ include the athletes?

  7. Aaron says:

The athletes should boycott the teams/games and concentrate on academics.

  8. Aaron says:

The athletes should boycott the teams/games and concentrate on academics.

  9. Elliott says:

This will never subside. It is “the American Way” in one respect or another.  We just have to “deal with it”.

  10. JustAThought says:

Maybe, the answer is for more Black kids to see HBCUs as viable choices where the white racist element does not overhang their daily lives. It’s a much better opportunity than being cosmetic decoration on campus or wasting their education time as ”unpaid” jocks while enriching the coaches and their unversities.

  11. Makar says:

Actually, racism is all about a deep seated belief that a person is superior to another simply because of various external traits.  Furthermore, they believe that because of these physical differences there are inherent justifications in discriminating and classifying people.  Racism actually is about a sense of superiority more than it is about hate.  In fact there are deeply racist people who love certain black people.  They will even defend those particular black people if necessary.

Where hate gets involved is when the perceived -racially inferior- group seeks to move from their place of inferiority to their rightful place as 100% equal with the perceived racially superior group.  Hate may not be a strong enough word  to describe the emotional response to the actions of such a person.  As long as you stay in your place you are fine.  Racism is the explanation for the practice of institutional exclusion from certain rights, privileges, and places.  The racist believes that because one is inferior they should be treated as such, and should not have all of rights and privileges of the superior group. This is the basis for segregation and all Jim Crow law.  Furthermore, It was the foundation for racial enslavement of Africans by the American settlers.  They believed that we were so inferior as to be no better than common live stock.  This was seen in how we were treated during the slave trade of the south.  As a note: Many of these so-called benevolent slave owners of the south initially professed great love for their slaves until those slaves sought freedom.  This love immediately turned to deep hate, so much so that hanging was common if a slave tried to seek freedom by escape.

Here is the real point…  RACIAL HATE has been the Caucasian response to black resistance against marginalization and discrimination.  What puts many white people in denial about their racist ways is that they will say they do not hate black people.  They have been allowed to use hate as the foundational definition for racism.  If hate is NOT allowed to be the foundation of racism then white America is left without excuse.  Their feelings are so deep seated that they deceive themselves.  In fact, Caucasian Americans have no clue how IGNORANT they are of their own personal racism.  This is why things will never change.  You cannot change if you do not see your error.  This is not a technicality…  it is a real flaw in the discussion about race!

  12. Tunjii says:

Makar, I agree with you. However, Racism is all about a deep seated hatred for Black people, that plays itself out in all areas of people activities. It plays itself out negatively in Law, The Criminal Justice system. Health care, lack of educational opportunities, Banking loans, Employment opportunities, The Media i.e. radio, television, movies, music industry, music videos, etc. In short, Racism negatively impacts Black people’s lives each and everyday of our existence in the US. It’s why I offered the books I did. They clarify all that I’ve said and why.  Moreover, I urge all honest, well meaning people to read the books I suggested for more facts. Perhaps, you’ll see a different point of view.

  13. Tunjii says:

In addition, that hatred is systemic and historical, going back some 500 or more years.

  14. Billie Jelks-Hood says:

I bet if all the Black Athletes stop playing sports, it would get the school attention real soon.
We get a Black President, and the white Tea-Publican lose their ever last pea brain. They can never get over their power struggle , and then we have the UNCLE TOM, Herman the monster, out there waving his confederate flag, it’s no wonder these mosquisto brain student feel this way, because their parents still think this way. The young Blacks better wake up and realize that racism never ends even from Tavis Smiley,Cornell West, and I see quite a few very conservatiive bloggers, one that recently criticize D.L Hugley, for calling Herman, the monsters, a uncle tom. Ben Jealous,President, of the NAACP, said over the last couple years we have seen unprecendent rise in biogotory, malice and ignorant in public discourse.

  15. DoverDavisJr. says:

This type of racist behavior will continue and increase as long as Black people use the N-Word. I mean what does it take to get it in your heads. There are no excuses for using the N-word. Its is racism when they use it and when we use it.

  16. Tunjii says:

@81ac145758c45de63afaf50e5d38f833:disqus I totally agree with you . As Black people, we must using the ‘N’ word too. We cannot expect others to stop calling us by such an evil word, while continuing to use it ourselves. There’s is no excuse for its use and it’s time everyone stopped using it.

  17. al says:

This is not anything new first of all young Blacks need to get control of things going on around them and start reading about their History and start enrolling in HBC’S parents need to pay more attention to these recruiters coming into their Homes to get their Sons and Daughters on Atheletic scholorships especially those that do not hire Black or Minorties Teachers…and always remember just because some white kids and other ethnic group accept you does not mean that their Parents agree with it…Racism is very much alive in this Country….

  18. Makar says:

You are basically right.  It is just important to remember that the core is an Aryan superiority vs. inferiority thing.  This is far more insidious than you know.  It does plays out in all those ways you said but our history in this country has a large part to play in it.  Other parts of this world are effected very differently.  This problem exists mainly in the US and Europe.  We are very polarized in the US largely because of our history with each other.  It is a very very complex issue.  One that would take thinking/caring about, which most white people do not care to do.  They seek to reduce it to simple sound bites like “playing the race card”.

Do me a favor…  Ask a white person you are friendly with if they hate black people?  Most will say no.  Then ask them do they see you as their equal in every way?  If they were to really search their feelings they would not “yes”.

  19. Makar says:

    I agree totally!

  20. Makar says:

To your point…  How do we expect not to be marginalized and disrespected when we continue to do the same to ourselves?

  21. It is so SAD that people still have narrow minds in this day and time.  I truly thought that Oklahoma being the 46 state in the union, is the #1 most prejudice state against black people, and I still believe this is true.  It breaks my heart to know that another race of people can hate another race because of the color of one’s skin.  Black people have never done anything to anyone or race of people.  Black people are survivors and they will overcome the malicious and derogatory word/s of the people at Michigan State University.

When cut we all bleed red blood, someone who is black saved someone’s life with their blood or body parts, a white person just might have a black person’s blood running through their veins and body.

God said he made all of us in his image.  I am so thankful that we have a merciful and forgiving God, who loves all that he created.  God said what you do to the least of his people you do also unto him.

And this black man, who is a republican and wants to be the republican candidate for president, is a disgrace to the Black/African American Race.  Need I say more.

God help us, we need you to take this battle and let your will be done!   Jesus there is no one greater than you!  Every name under the name of Jesus must bow or flee.

    Love Tracy

  22. JennySuer2 says:

    Dover,
I agree with you too.  I was reading the other article about Herman Cain, & I could not believe how many people were throwing that word around in their response.  People…STOP USING THAT WORD!!

  23. Rose says:

I believe that radism is about superiority and ignorance. In history when the black people were in power they gave the non blacks “hell”. they were strong and invincible and welded their power without mercy.  Each group that is in power lord it over those less fortunate.  There is only one race if you believe the bible and only one race if you believe all people came from the apes.  I truly racism is higher form of ignorance, cut us all do we not bleed blood,; when they type blood for transfusion, do they check the color of the donors skin?
I do not have the solution, but, I truly believe that a power higher than all of us has the solution.  In the mean time, protect yourself, while we wait for the solution.

  24. Rose says:

sorry about the spelling, I am very angry about all of this
    rose

  25. Rose says:

Racism never reduced in the US, it has grown and wears a new disguise.  We are jsut waking up to what has always been going on.  I am 66 years old and I have seen much and experienced much.  In the 70′s I was the only person of color in many seminars on my job, in the 80′s they added another  person of color and a latino.  When I left my job in the 90′s the people of color were disappearing in middle management.  The Civil rights Act of the 1960′s caused some change, but the money people are tired of the welfare roles climbing as the jobs go overseas and the people of color do not have money to buy their durgs.  They are running scared because the people of color and others are making ehm go broke.

  26. Cynthiajohns443 says:

The only good thing to come out of these incidents is that our young people are getting the message that “IT’S” not over.

  27. Tunjii says:

@Rose, where is your documented evidence of  Black people committing the same atrocities against Caucasians or anyone else? There’s no such archaeological, anthropological, linguistic evidence to support your claims at all. You’re assuming and rationalizing to justify what has been done to Black people. As to the Bible, it’s nothing more than a plagiarized version of ancient indigenous Nile Valley spiritual ideas, concepts and practices. Although those plagiarized concepts, ideas and practices were perverted with all kinds of Euro-Asiatic myths, religious and cultural ideas.

  28. PK says:

How is going to a HBCU a solution? Many of us want to goto PWI (Predominately White Institutions) for the academic rigor, big college experience, etc. Many of us are aware of the differences but are ready. The issue is when people participate in ignorant hate crimes.

  29. Makar says:

I have been to both … Howard U was very rigorous, but I moved on to Indiana Univ. What Howard did for me was fortify my sense of who I am. That may sound cliche but it really did! As an elective I took a black history course at HU we touched on historical facts that no other teacher has ever had the courage to discuss. In one of my IU history classes the teacher did everything he could to explain the merits of slavery… would not entertain any other argument. I walked out of the class and took an Anthology course instead.

My point?… Part of my identity was forged at Howard in a very healthy way. Although I know all African-American students will go that route, there is great value in it.

  30. Makar says:

Correction… My point?… Part of my identity was forged at Howard in a very healthy way. Although I know all African-American students may NOT go that route, there is great value in it.

  31. Brook says:

This is ridiculous.  At least the chancellor came out with a statement.  But I bet they don’t hire black professors and don’t require their students to take classes on African American studies.

  32. Tunjii says:

@Brook, what is needed is not only taking courses in Afrikan-American History, but in ancient African History itself. it’s much easier to enslave, demean, de-humanize, terrorize, lynch, maim, kill Black people , if you can make them less than human, than it is, if you teach the truth about them to those doing your bidding. Teaching that truth will reveal that Afrikans (Black people) are the forerunners of Civilization and that the term Civilization includes: writing, mathematics, architecture, engineering, medicine, astrology, astronomy, governmental stricture, ideology, philosophy, spirituality, etc. All of these concepts have their genesis in ancient Afrika,  in the indigenous Nile Valley Civilizations of Kemet/Ta-Merri (Egypt) , Ta-Seti (Nubia), and Ta-Nehisi/Kush (Ethiopia) . When you sever a people from their land, language, history, their own spirituality and culture, and impose your own upon them, it’s much easier to control them. This is what was perpetrated upon Black people, here in the Western Hemisphere by Caucasians.  Until the truth of Black people’s contributions to Civilization, both before The Trans Atlantic Slave Kidnappings and after, and about the true atrocities that were perpetrated against them by Caucasians on a regular basis, is taught in our schools, this ignorance and belittling of Black people will continue.

  33. Tunjii says:

@PK, most of us aren’t ready because we have never been taught a working definition of what Racism white-Supremacy actually is. So we come to these white Institutions ill-prepared for situations such as the one we are discussing.  Most of the lower level educational institutions do not,I repeat, do not teach factual history about how Racism white-Supremacy came to be and how it still works today. They’d just rather Blacks and others forget the atrocities attributed to The Trans-Atlantic Slave Kidnappings, the impending Racism white-Supremacy that accompanied it, etc. As I said earlier, until  the educational institutions of the country and the world begins to teach real history, based upon documented evidence,  of Black people’s contribution to Civilization both in this country and in ancient times and how that creation of Civilization influenced other later Civilizations, all of whom came later and after the first creators of Civilization (Blacks), we will continue to deal with these types of incidences. It’s much easier to justify enslaving, to impose your culture upon another group of people, to force them to adopt your religion, language, culture, practices, holidays, etc., to castigate,  to terrorize, to lynch, to maim, to castrate, to kill,  to de-humanize, to demean, etc.,  a people who have never contributed anything towards Civilization , even though there is a mountain of evidence to the contrary.  These historical facts must be taught in our schools, and not just in February; in both the Black ones and the white ones. This is what has to change , in order for the madness to stop.

  34. Tomas_rivera says:

actually the Khazar nation practice mass segregation during the 7th to 11th centuries. In an attempt to seperate themselves from their Black lineage. This is a long stemming cutural war.

All this discussion about accepting white racism as an absolute factor with no end in sight.  Let’s not forget how many white voters it took to get Obama elected.  They can’t ALL be racists.  And let’s also consider how black people who chjoose NOT to toe the “Hate Whitey” line are treated by their own.  I have relatives who won’t talk to me because I refuse to say that ALL white people are racist devils.  Too f#cking bad.  I happen to know a lot of white people who are not racists at all.  I also know a lot of black people who hate whites for just being white.  This too is racism and trying to justify it with tales from the past doesn’t do a thing for us.  So these fools put up signs and hung a doll, does that mean ALL white people will do this?  NO.  We can’t continue to answer racism with racism.  It cuts both ways.

  36. Damn, call it what it is. Its a HATE CRIME! If it was swastika directed at Jews it would be a hate crime. What make hanging a black doll with a noose less of a hate crime. Is it the fact that the actions are directed at blacks that keep the incident under the hate crime threshold. I think it is poor journalism on the publications part. Probably doesn’t want to lose any sponsors.

Who cares, get over it ppl we are dealing with devils. It will never get better..we have to find new ways to deal with it. 1. write BLUE EYED DEVIL 2. YOU BELONG TO UR FATHER THE DEVIL.
we must call it like we see it and stop being shock, stop trying to be their dam friend. they hate u they have always hated u. remember they hated God first. They cannot help it.

  39. Eric Wright says:

You are not black,  Get the fuck on impersonating a black person.  The “Hate Whitey” notion is a creation of the white mind, and no black circles, including the so-called militant ones, use the phrase hate whitey.  You are phony Shake your booty.

It only means we are educated differently, but thanks for demonstrating yet another layer of paranoia.  Are they all out to get you?

  42. We are all part of the human race. People who are racists, say and do things out of ignorance. They need to see people in other parts of the world, whom are very happy as to where they come from. We all know that, we as human share one planet, and we all make a contribution to the community where we human live, play, and raise our children. We all come from people who think the world of us. We must all compete with dignity and respect, of cultures customs norms.

  43. Awsjr5 says:

There is nothing new here. Even when you’re smart enough to attend college, they will find a way to say something negative. Whitey is okay with us as long as it’s sports, ghetto rap and entertainment, but start to make inroads in the institutions and power centers that run this country: government, law, science, medicine, finance, and technology, all of a sudden you’re a ni**er who doesn’t belong. Keep moving forward regardless. If you lived in the ghetto on welfare they’d say “see, they’re leeching our tax dollars,” but when you apply for work with them, they deny you, and if you do get in they’re hostile and say “affirmative action” which they are desperately trying to repeal so they can deny you even more. It is high time we become employers and supporters of ourselves, and take it back to our own communities and teach others. Our young people are fully capable of learning these things, and they are NOT going to learn it waiting for whitey to teach it to them.

  44. cw says:

You are WRONG!  Our racist response to their continued racism and hatred of us does NOT cut both ways.  YOU are a phony – there is no doubt about that.

If you are indeed black, then you understand the problem and the continued problem of race in this country.

Tell me, since you believe this ‘racism’ thing that black people are paranoid about is a thing of the past, what about segregation in the south that’s still being practiced?

Did you know that Morgan Freeman tried to host an integrated prom (even with him sparing no expense) but the white parents (most of them) would have none of it?  White parents decided their kids should attend a white prom, instead of mixing it up wid dem n….ers!

Seriously, get your head out of the sand and stop pretending racism (extreme to the core) is controlled or no longer exists in this country.

Wow, a real ignoramus trying to pretend he’s educated or in the know.

  45. Dtrain2114 says:

its all you ignorant black students that say nigger all the time like it’s but or and…..you should be ashamed of yourselves. See white folks feel that “hey, we buy their music, we make them wealthy, we can say it if you like it or not. you are nothing but some jungle bunny, ooga booga entertainment for us white folk…..niggas are dumb even in college. your lack of unity is the reason you get dissed all the time. stop marchin and start whoopin some asses and shit will change……

  46. Matt Mckinney12 says:

Grow the fuck up, and stop getting offended over words. This is America. We have a constitutional right to say offensive things. It is your choice to let them offend you. Had someone posted a sign that said, “No whites please.” That would be considered perfectly acceptable. “Racist” is really just a code word for anti-white and I’m sick of it.

You can call me a Racist and I’ll embrace it. I am a white man who has never apologized for being a man or for being white; what a crazy concept. I am proud of my race and I hope to preserve it.

We now live in a country where these kids could be arrested for saying a word, and I’m not so sure that this is what the civil rights leaders that you people are so found of had in mind.

  47. Corey says:

When all the fat old white conservative Christians die off, America and the rest of the world will be better off.

Those same people are shouting the loudest at the success of the sports team.  What is meant by these stupid people, is “you can stay at State as long as you run, jump and play.”  However if you use your brains more then your physical ability, then you don’t belong and we will let you know.  Hogwash and junk!  You belong and don’t let anyone or anything run you away. Make the administration stand up to the school motto and creed.

  49. Waltd907 says:

My bet is that these incidents were done by a black student in an attempt to cause racial strife. This is not the first time this has happened and it turned out to be a set up.

  51. Sun_kissed_skin says:

Absolutely intrigued & impressed with your comment.

  52. Sun_kissed_skin says:

I agree and, personally, do not use the word. However, I wouldn’t be offended if we understood the true origin of the word. For ex: Niger, Negus, etc. One thing we should always keep in mind is that what was once considered positive is now portrayed as negative. There are so many examples to substantiate this. Europeans have done an outstanding job using our titles, symbols and spirituality to their benefit. Whether that means claiming it as their own or saturating its true meaning with negative connotations.

  53. Troywilliams36 says:

you just want us to clean those bathrooms for you, don’t you Jack, grow up and come into this century please, hopefully it’s not too late for you to change your ignorant ways.
