WJKS Kiss 101.7 in Delaware has some explaining to do. The station allegedly decided to remove the actor Tyrese from the building after he spoke on the air about the liquor stores in urban neighborhoods. Tyrese had appeared on the station to promote his new album, and then spoke about how liquor stores should not be near schools.
“Get them cats out of here,” he said to the DJ. ”Selling alcohol right across from your kids school, homie — put the pressure on them homie … you knowhow to put pressure on dudes selling in your hood.”
That’s the point when the station manager allegedly came to tell Tyrese to leave the building. His argument? Tyrese was “disrespecting” the Delaware community.
Tyrese responded to the incident on Twitter by saying: “I just kicked out of a radio station frm a [program director] who had a problem w/ me speaking on liquor stores that are by elementary schools in Delaware.”
He also said, “If you don’t STAND for something.. You will damn near fall for Anything.”
When I heard about his incident, I found it to be quite curious. Sooooo, you’re saying that a black man came into your radio station speaking on an issue that was progressive, productive and supportive of the black community, and you put him out of the station for that? I wouldn’t be surprised if WJKS ended the Tyrese interview by playing a long list of songs about b*tches, hoes, dealing drugs and shooting black men in the head. As the church lady on Saturday Night Live might say, “How Conveeeeeenient.”
All jokes to the side, the entire Delaware community should take this radio station off of its dial. We should not tolerate living in a society where black men are rewarded for celebrating ignorance and punished for making intelligent and empowered statements. In fact, some would say that an intelligent black man is the greatest enemy to corporate America, which makes money by keeping us high, drunk and looking for the next party. Had Tyrese shown up to the radio station half-drunk, with a mouth full of gold teeth, yelling “Where the liquor at ni**a?” He likely would have been a hit on the station and invited back for an encore.
A visit to the WJKS website shows that while the station managers find it appalling that Tyrese wants to protect children from the dangers of alcohol, they proudly promote artists like Lil Wayne (who has rapped about shooting little babies, women and grandmothers), R. Kelly (who is known for his “intense appreciation” of underage girls), and Chris Brown (who was convicted of beating a woman two years ago). Given that the station has a ton of solicitations for potential advertisers on their page, I’m speculating that their need for money is what leads to their willingness to sell the children of Delaware up the river. Money cannot be the sole justification for almost any activity that takes place in our community – during slavery, others sold us, and now, we simply love to sell ourselves.
The problem that was faced by Tyrese is common throughout the United States. I’ve had folks reach out to me from Chicago and Dallas (among other cities), noting that while many suburban communities have no trouble establishing ordinances to keep liquor stores out of their communities, it can often be difficult to get the same opportunities for black neighborhoods (after all, the corporations need some place to sell their liquor and guns, so why not sell them to us?). One only needs to see the impact of drugs, alcohol and violence up close to realize just how devastating liquor stores and gun shops have been to the African American community. What’s most interesting is that many of these communities are run by black elected officials who’ve been paid to remain silent about the presence of these atrocious corporate predators.
Tyrese, I’m very proud of you. I also hope that others who hear about this incident will go out of their way to support you in your decision to take a stand on an issue of relevance to our community. Unfortunately, too many famous black men are enslaved by the corporate machine and made to believe that ignorance is the key to success. I argue that the opposite is true for black men….we are brilliant, powerful and as capable as we choose to be. I’ll be going to see the next Tyrese movie, even if it’s a bad one – I want to see him succeed.
Now let’s go shut down these damn liquor stores, and I’d love to see an end to WJKS. A new day has arrived in black America, and this kind of behavior is no longer tolerated.

Great article.
Go Tyrese! Well said Dr. Watkins.
Way to to Tyrese!!!
I went to the Radio website and read the Station Manager’s comments and came away confused and scratching my head. It is curious to me that he (The KISS 101.7 Station Manager)…well…why doesn’t he just play Tyrese’s on air comments/partial interview so that the rest of the world can hear what was really said. EVERYTHING IS HEARSAY FOR THOSE OF US THAT DIDN’T HEAR THE ON AIR CONVERSATION BY TYRESE. From what I read on the KISS 101.7 Website, iIt sounds like the real anger and problem was that this radio station hadn’t been notified by Tyrese’s people that he was going to be in the area at a local college and the Station Manager was upset?
With the exception of a few, black entertainers are the greatest obstacles to the progress of the black community. Glad to see Tyrese daring to be different. Keep up the good work Tyrese.
Great piece… Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I will definitely be amongst those spreading the word about this travesty… I too am proud of Tyrese for his stance…
I have always respected that young man as a actor and now I clearly understand why. God bless you Ty and your career. You should run for Congress after all you do have a message and President Obama needs a real man at his side.
@ Wisdomkeepeer….why does that matter? Usually, when celebrities come to town they are on all the local stations that play their music. Actors go a little more places, so because Tyrese was going to a college shouldn’t have upset him. I think the station is tryin to cover up their mistake.
THERE IS ALWAYS 2 SIDES TO EVERY STORE. ..AND BEFORE MY STATE GETS A BAD RAP PLEASE READ THE REPLY FROM THE STATION MANAGER WHO ALLEGEDLY KICKED TYRESE OUT.
The following is a letter that was sent to Tyrese’s Record Company on the facts! I thought you should know! Tony Q
Tyrese I have heard enough of your lies. I am the Owner & General Manager of the station that “kicked” you off the air. Now you know full well what the reason was. In case you forgot I will remind you.
When you came into the station I was informed by my staff that you were not in a good mood. You went on the air and said that you wanted to stop and get a Pepsi and a candy bar. I am surprised that you couldn’t tell the difference between a convenience store and a liquor store. You preceded to lecture to the audience that they had to do something about this. That liquor stores should not be near schools. This I do not disagree with but in case you don’t know, liquor stores as well as schools are controlled by the state. This is part that upset me. It was they way you spoke on the air. You stereotyped your own culture by calling them Homies ect. Almost blaming Delawareans for allowing liquor stores to be there. The DJ on the air said to you that this is not the only station that has this problem, your reply was I don’t care I am here now in Delaware.
As far as I know there are no liquor stores located across the street from a school. I have it all on tape, if you need to be refreshed. What got me real upset was that this was a way for you to promoted your event at the University Of Delaware. You were having a book signing and you were also going to perform. You know Mr.Tyress being a black radio station, its hard enough getting people to advertise on this format and yet when a performer comes to a radio station as a guest and then use the airwaves for personal gain is wrong. Why didn’t the college, your record company or your management work out some kind of promotion to invite the people you were lecturing on the air to come to your event. What you did was made your on air time an info commercial. Now I do not expect that from a Black performer to use us. Imagine how I felt that Tyress is going to be performing in our backyard and we didn’t even know about it. Nor did our listeners. Maybe you found out that day that it wasn’t promoted and you decided to use us rather then support the station that supported you. That’s right we were the 1st station in the north east to support you new song.
Also you have the order of what happened on the air wrong. You came on lecturing our listeners, you then asked the DJ if we had any listeners. What kind of question was that if we had any listeners. Then you went right into promoting your big night at the University of Delaware. You received the full air time you deserved. We did not cut off your mike, we did not let the audiences know that the interview was over but you did. You couldn’t wait to tweet your words all over and let people believe that you were kicked off because you were talking about liquor store, that was not the reason. You got away with taking advantage of the only remaining independent station in the North East.
Its situations like this that are killing the Black Division of Record Companies. Do you think for one second if a Pop group was appearing somewhere and that Pop station didn’t know about it, what would have happened. That’s right, the record of that group would have been pulled. In this case how you acted with your lies you got your own record pulled from the station. You came to the radio station hot and you left hot. Oh by the way I understand that you made a big deal at the Double Tree Hotel behind the station. Something about a room, your mouth got in the way again and they threw you out of there too! You need to check yourself. It could be you.
Now you have taken enough of my energy I wish you well on getting your records played on the major station chains.

Way to go Tyrese! You really have to question what was going through the minds of the people at the radio station?
It was a huge misunderstanding and unfortunate the way things turned out
We can easily fix these kind of problems. We simply own the stations!!!!!! We as Blacks need to own the media outlets. End of story.
It is truly sad that this station took that position, and yes it shoud be removed from the air. It really just goes to show that society seeks to keep Africans in America oppressed and “in a haze” to the racism that exists. KUDOS TO TYRESE FOR STANDING UP!
Yes, Right On!
I have always said if I were City Councilor, Mayor, Govenor, State Senator, President, in the black community especially, where all of this violence is continuing, I would make liquor stores distant.
The consumer would have to drive to a location out of view of the whole communities and the people could buy their allotted amount once a month.
Cancer, violence, stigma are playing a major negative role in communities along with alcohol consumption, especially by youngsters, whereby someone older purchases the liquor for them, drugs which has depleted our natural beauty and turned many into monsters!
Pregnant women, Young men are all caught up in this alcohol maze!
We should be standing up with Tyrese and demanding the same!
Tyrese has restored my faith in young black males. He is standing on his own square of supporting standards in our community, especially as it impacts our children. Liquor stores and schools do not mix. Our children do not deserve to have these negative influences near their schools. I give Tyrese much respect for speaking out on the right issue. Perhaps the people in Delaware have a blind eye, but all eyes are not closed. Tyrese you represent power use it.
I commend you Tyrese for taking a stand.
tyrese i commend you soo much for speaking up God has smile on you we need more people to speak against that, it needs to be banned period, mybe all the drunk driving and fights etc will end some what all it does it posion your body n brain. Thank for being a real man.
tyrese i commend you soo much for speaking up God has smile on you we need more people to speak against that, it needs to be banned period, mybe all the drunk driving and fights etc will end some what all it does it posion your body n brain. Thank for being a real man.
There are always two sides to a story Dr Boyce. I am not too quick at this to side with this performer based upon some recent racial news that was posted all over the web prior to this (attitude based). As well, there is a post here from the General Manager, Stephanie expressing her view on this particularly incident. I’m just curious at this point, where speaking up crosses the line with borderline hypocrisy and illiteracy of the mouth? Just because we have a point of view does not give anyone the right to express it rudely to another and nationally out of order the way he sounds like he may have done. It embarrasses not encourages for one. Two, why do we always have to lower our own instead of trying to stand beside our own and figure out the way together how to pull each other up and out?
For those of you who have not…scroll to Stephanie comments before you continue to judge one sidely. M.
We’ve been complaining about liquor stores, guns, drugs among other things in the black communities for years and it still continues. Soooooo why aren’t we finding the same in white neighborhoods????!!!!! The white man is still bent on keeping & tearing the black communities &(people) down simply because there are so many & too many of our black people doing better and moving ahead in this man-made white America, who would like nothing more than to keep us under their feet! “WAKE UP PEOPLE, BLACK AMERICA……FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN & THEIR CHILDREN.”
Always 2 sides!!!!
If this comment came from the Owner and General Manager, he need to return back to grammar school. I had a hard time reading his comment from the grammar errors. I don’t know why you posted this, it seems as if he has alot of anger built up in him and trying to defend something that is should have been handled better at the station. Is this Owner and General Manager being paid by the liquor stores? I still stand behind Tyrese and posting this comment is irrelevant. Pick your battles and stand up for what is right
More than likely, it IS him, but that’s how being RIGHT is—folks don’t always like to hear it, and if they got something to beat you over the head with—hotel rooms, radio-station interview time, airplay—they tend to use it. Tyrese might not have been in the greatest mood, and his subject matter was definitely uncomfortable for a radio station trying to please listeners to hear, but he is right. Liquor stores are almost invariably in Black neighborhoods, on routes frequented by children, and it needs to stop…PEACE.
Stephaine,
Do you have more facts about what happened?? Please share.
I live on the North side of Wilmington and there is a liquor store right across from Thomas Edison. I have tried to get my kids bus stop changed because of it being in front of a liquor store. There is or was a Ciroc billboard 3 block from Prestige. I am not sure of the distance to be exact about the other liquor stores but I will check them out today. Thank you Tyrese for your concern even if it arose from you being in a bad mood. I see this everyday, there are about 10 liquor stores (if not more) in a few block radius and its ridiculous. Glad to know its the state that allows this. I will be making some calls, asap.
very good TYRESE .. the same is happening here in miami, fla., & no other community you see so many liguor stores so close together.. ( other than chruches)..
there’s walways three sides to every story; his, theirs and somewhere in the middle “the truth”. I commend Tyresse for speaking on the situation, however it came about it needed to be said. Also, for the owner of the radio station, i was surprised that you would respond in that fashion. Your response was unprofessional and in my eyes sheds an even dimmer light on your opinion. Remember, the bottom line is ”TAKE CARE OF THE CHILDREN !!!!”
That Delaware radio station should be run of the town the way the ran Tyrese out of their building. Only then will a statement be made about the way we are treated.
People, this is not ROCKET SCIENCE. Liquors stores are EVERYWHERE. Whether they are in the black community or white community, people will still drive to them. Although he meant good, it doesn’t matter. Alcohol is not as detrimental as the person using it. Next, you’ll hear people saying get McDonalds out of Black Communities. Simple mathematics, DONT USE IT. It’s not the liquor store, it’s the consumer. There are bars everywhere. If you go in and have a beer in moderation, it’s great. It’s not different from eating 20 burgers back to back, or drinking Nyquil more than prescribed or any medicine in fact. A liquor stores is business, just as everything else in the community. What should one sell, VEGGIES? Based on the logic that people will eat it just because it’s sold is outrageous. There are vegetarian options in this world, and people have been preaching it, but people still eat meat. It’s not like kids leave 1st grade class and go to the liquor store.
Now…as Stephanie says, there are two sides to every story. I can’t imagine why anyone would kick any person out for saying get the liquor stores out. Yes, SOMETHING important is missing in this story. In my opinion, if you haven’t told the whole story, then you haven’t told any of the story. Can you imagine? “Get liquor stores out of the neighborhoods,” ”Get This Guy Out!” Sounds a bit dodgy.
Conclusively, just don’t buy liquor people. It’s not that hard. Don’t sit outside of McDonalds and eat cheeseburgers, and blame them for your obesity. We all have conscious decisions. The consumer does to. Why don’t want liquor stores moved out of these neighborhoods? Well, why should I? Well, they chose their business for a reason. Should I suggest they move to an area where no one drinks? That would be imprudent. Don’t like the business, don’t go to it. But, it has nothing to do with a kid’s education. Moving them, will not increase test scores.
Well said. I thought the same thing about the grammatical errors. I don’t believe it is a letter from the GM, it just sounds like an angry supporter of the radio station trying to discredit Tyrese. I stand behind Tyrese totally because what he said is true. I never see the amount of liquor stores in other neighborhoods that you see in lower class areas. It’s very obvious to why.
Freida~
Tony Q, is that the best you could come up with?
Good for Tyrese. I like his movie’s, too. This struggle is a 30-year battle. I recall that in the 1980s that NY Pastor Calvin Butts led protests against liquor stores, liquor billboards, and cigarette ads. It led to a citywide reduction and forced community planning boards to be more vigilant.
Community fightback is possible when people organize. I hope local Delaware leaders will pick up Tyrese’s fallen standard and march on to victory. They should tell WJKS to KISS OFF.
And there was a time. Cigarette, beer and liquor companies
Oh, excuse me… is this the same I Gotta Chick Tyrese? That guy?
The one who could only find two black women for his video filled with women and his response to the why was “I held 2 days of auditions he went with the best.” Couldn’t find qualified black models- funny, I hear that all the time from companies in corporate America.
And his co-artists Tyga and RKelly. Really? That guy? Tyrese said this to get black folks distracted- hoping the black blogs would pick it up and support him , and on that he was he was right. Liquor stores should not be so prevalent in black communities period- neither should guys who date young girls. And as for Tyrese in his video I Gotta Chick- he has a drink (liquor) and a cigar (smoking) and a bunch of young girls grinding on anything that walks- including each other(sex)? And I should be happy this bland statement he made in Delaware? Call me when Tyrese takes a stand like that in New York or Chicago. Maybe I might turn my head. For now, he needs to be boycotted along with the radio station I never heard of in Delaware for making a further mockery out of anyone not sharp enough to see his hypocrisy. I’m Just Saying. Next!
I agree with this article and I too will support Tyrese although I have never heard of him before. He stands for something the black community needs. So do you, Dr. Watkins. The continued manipulation by the corporate media and big corp of the black community is historic in magnitude. Just another form of the Jim Crow that the black man and woman is suffering. Stand up and be heard.
Keep fighting the fight.
Oh, so now we are so undisciplined that we shouldn’t have liquor stores because you know, us Blacks just can’t control ourselves? Sounds a lot to me like in the old days when it was thought that Blacks shouldn’t be around white women because we were so inflamed with tribal passion that we wouldn’t be able to resist raping them. I got a liquor store right down the street, and somehow i resist going there and drinking up a whole bottle of whiskey.
Now dont get me wrong I dont agree with him being kicked out. But I am sick of being treated like all Blacks are children that need to be protected from themselves.
We had to take a stand in our community. A person came from another city and wanted a liquor license for his deli. There was a new library, senior center and child care center two doors down and across the street. Did he care? No he lived miles away. But we did and made sure that he did not get one. We had had enough. Put the pressure on your elected officials.
I applaud(forgive my spelling) Tyrese on his stand against selling alcohol in black communities. If we do not stand up for ourselves and our children, no one else will. Peace
Yes, we all have to make “conscience decisions”, but wouldn’t it be easier to make that decision as a young child if it is not constantly thrown in your face. How much common sense does it take NOT to have a liquor store across from a school? Your basically saying to the child “Hey when your old enough come here” every day of there school year!!!
Then you petition the state, and have it change. You’re saying the people in your state are not smart enough to conduct change….Oh the state control it oh well!!! Hey I have an idea, tell not to vote too!!!!
While you’re at it, let’s legalize drugs and sell them in the elementary schools. Oops, my bad. That is already occuring. Although the consumer does have some responsibilty, selling drugs and alcohol, especially in a neighborhood with children only adds to the problem. You do not find as nearly the number of liquor stores in white communities. If they want their fix, theycome down to the black communities.
I am not saying there are no liquor stores in the white neighborhoods, but not as many. Definitely not on every corner. It is time for African-American people to wake up. A veggie store on every corner would be a healthy alternative. People drink and drug in excess because they are trying to get out of their minds. Meditation and music would be healthier and more productive alternatives than drugs and alcohol. Something to think about Mr. DJ Problem. Peace
Dr. Watkins, thanks for being a voice for the voiceless and to my inteligent brother Tyrese, keep the light of inteligence burning and one day our brothers shall see the light and follow you to a better and more respectable destiny. I have always and will continue to be proud of you as an artist and a black man in America, thanks.
Very respectfully (since you opened the door) if we’re talking grammar, here, your own comment can be improved upon:
“If this comment came from the Owner/General Manager, then he needs to return back to grammar school. [he "need" is wrong. it is more correct to say he "needs"]
I had a hard time reading his comment, due to his [numerous] grammatical errors. [his comment from the grammatical errors--you can say his comment, "rife with" or "riddled with" grammatical errors]
I don’t know why you posted this; it would appear that [the Owner/Manager or Tyrese?] holds a lot of pent-up anger and is trying to defend against his handling of the situation (which obviously could have been handled better) at the radio station.
[you have basically created two sentences, so there should either be a period to break up the two thoughts or a semi-colon to establish that the two thoughts go together]
Is this Owner and General Manager being paid by the liquor stores? [no errors here]
I still stand behind Tyrese’s version of events, notwithstanding the posting of the comments by the Owner/General Manager. His defensive response is irrelevant.
[Tyrese] Pick your battles and stand up for what is right (to whom is this addressed–Tyrese? He picked his battle–and stood up for his beliefs, which got him kicked off the air; The Owner/Manager stood up for his beliefs, which is why we’re reading his message).

We could all use an editor (myself, included), but if we’re really going to be wordsmiths to correct another, then we need to “come correct.” I welcome improvements to my own [respectful] critique of Guest. I like that we care about grammar. We should know what needs fixing in our own work.
It’s very easy to make mistakes when we’re angry or excited about something. We may push the reply button too fast than we intended. God knows, I’m grateful for the edit button. But don’t shoot yourself in the foot while shooting at someone else.
This is all written with respect, because people in this thread seem to care about grammar. Now, if I were really smart, I’d be able to give you the rules of grammar, but I don’t know them off the top of my head. I do recommend English Grammar for Dummies (I have it) or any editing book by Diane Hacker. Trust me–I use an editor for anything I’m paid to write because it is hard to self-edit.
Tyress just keep doing what you are doing standing up for what’s right:) So what if the Radio Station threw you out, It’s okay God is still on yourside,..I’m Glad You Open Up What A Great Topic, Oh! By The Way Don’t Worry Your Records Will Sell, “Dark & Handsome, Keep Up The Good Work:)
Love tyrese!
Boooooooo… to the radio station
Where did you come from?
Well I’m from Oakland Ca. and I can only speak from what I’ve see in my life. There are only clusters of liquor store in black neighborhoods of Oakland. There like 10 of them in a less than a mile radius of each other. When I going to other parts of Oakland where people with money live such as Oakland hills, Clairmont, and Piedmont..you don’t see not 1 liquor store. You are right about one thing people who are alcoholics will find liquor, but when you see 5 liquor stores across the street from public schools in black neighborhoods you ask yourself how is this allowed? It’s like these children are set up for failure. Liquor store brings trouble such as drunks and drug addicts and dealers that sit there and loiter all day. There was a young girl that got rapped by a drunk drug dealer behind the liquor strore in broad daylight, so your telling me this was her choice? How can you compare a liquor store to a McDonalds in a neighborhood? It’s sad but true most black neighborhoods are dangerous so to add liquor store is like pouring alcohol on an open wound.
I agree with him. Just check the comparatives of the percentage of not only liquor stores in the community relative to the population. There seems to be no opposition to ANY application for a license as long as one has the financial backing. However, there seems to be just as many churches to “save” those addicted to alcohol and drugs. This is the “fault” of our politicians. They seem to believe to community needs to extract as many dollars from their constituents as possible for the revenue. No doubt, this will never change. The only solution is to move from the “neighborhood” to suburbia. Do recognize the majority of the principals of these liquor stores don’t live in the area; thus the money does not stay in the area. We, the people, must participate on the slow change that should occur, but then WE the people, the residents of the area don’t even vote!
Exactly !
We were not on location, therefore, the facts may not be as they were given
However, we do know as a people those L- i -Q – U – O -R stores, are out there . They are profit driven businesses, that could be located in abundance elsewhere, as this male of color has witnessed point . .
It isn`t just a Delaware problem . The gentleman, who said to have been the station owner, didn`t meet the correct grammar right of passage for some .
For me, I understood his points, perhaps because I wanted to .
This language we people of color have learned in their world isn`t our native tongue, oftentimes we feel a need to correct others who have not mastered
ENGLISH . Denied the right to even read or write, I, me, think it speaks in volume, the progress made since the Slavemasters, have allowed us to have certain freedoms, as in reading, writing, and learning correct diction .
We have fared so well, in an oppressive society, a male of color, is now at the helm of this great AMERICA . Every spectrum of this nation`s society, now have a bit of color . We should always be grateful for those positive changes, expecting even more from our children, as we attempt to remove
most negatives which may hinder their furure . Alcohol, is a good place to start, useless as any attempts will be . It is an ingrained, learned negative .
Whatever the reason, whatever “mood” Tyrese was in at the time, Whatever way one would choose to perceive his statement, what he said needed saying. I am proud of the brother who came from meager beginnings and a hard childhood to stay true to his convictions. I am proud of you Tyrese and all you are trying to do in this crazy society we live in. Stay true to yourself and your beliefs. By the way, i absolutely love your new book. keep writing the truth and you can’t go wrong. Love you movies, too. God bless you and keep you safe always.
If you are Black you are definitely a dame fool…….I wouldn’t be surprise if I heard this kind of bull dung from a brainwashed, super unintelligent, ignorant, prejudice white boy………DJ you are a problem…………
The radio station, in my opinion should not be painted as the villian . Trying to deliver information, to the public, seems important . Unemployment is high enough, without even one more person becoming unemployed . This could be a learning venue, if used properly . Keep all viable busineses thriving in America, it helps to keep another person in our country employed .
What does the kind of music played on the station have to do with Tyrese protesting liquor stores? As usual, you go off track and carry it too far. So what if they play Chris Brown, R. Kelly and Lil Wayne? The issue is what is the real problem. Why was he asked to leave? I can’t get an answer from this diatribe. It could be that he was afraid of his sponsor, most likely liquor sponsors. Say that.
have you heard the interview? wjks is a locally owned and operated radio station. If you want what really happened and not just what Tyrese says…go to wjks’ Facebook page. Tony Q wouldn’t have just kicked him out for talking about liqour stores across the street from schools, he cares about the community too, HIS community…Get all the facts before you try to tear down a radio station that is one of the last few privately owned radio stations and does a lot of great things for its listeners…
Please go back to sleep!
Tyrese, we are very proud of you. Speak the truth my brother.
“If this comment came from the Owner and General Manager, he need(s) to return back (strike the word back) to grammar school… it seems as if he has alot of anger” (the word is a lot)
Hey, as long as three people read what I wrote, I will have done my job. I can’t correct your grammar, so–respect. And if it must be said (then I’ll say it): if you keep your sentences short, it’s a lot easier not to make mistakes.
I’m as old as your grandmother, so take it for what it’s worth. Parents need to be slapped upside the head, because they should know better.
Is this really the general manager? Being a radio station that targets the Black audience, what better arena to address a problem that affects Black people? Are your advertisers on interested in targeting drunk, self-loathing, people who are to scared to speak their minds? Maybe if your ad-men were better at their job they could get clients who don’t own those liquor stores. The real problem is you thought Ty was a stereo typical rapper who only cares about making money and not a difference.
I think I understand your moniker because I really do think you have a problem, including the people who have “liked” your comment.
By your logic, a child who has been fed a steady diet of fear based propaganda should be told “Quit being afraid” as that child ages when, had he not been fed that very same propaganda in the first place, he’d have been likely to stand up against fear.
Even in your explanation you have stated that alcoholics and drug users will find their places of choice to get their vice from. Using this particular logic, it would deduce that wherever the location of the most access will provide the largest collection of drug users and drunks thereby negating your own argument that it comes down to conscious choice.
Referencing moving to another area is well intentioned suggestion, however when money and credit scores can be an issue, then it becomes even more troublesome. Now… the best suggestion you offered would be not supporting the stores and therefore requiring them to find another location to sell, however as you said before, drunks and drug users will find their vices so the ultimate conclusion you have left is to kick the vices out of your community. This solution however requires pride and value in your community, however considering the way you speak about yours I wouldn’t doubt that you don’t have much of that within you so I wouldn’t expect you to understand my point on that one.
I am giving respect to Tyrese on this one for taking a stand on what he was saying because honestly it was a pride in keeping bad influences away from your children and a pride in a safe environment for education (which would likely promote higher priorities on education). Education is another problem to be tackled, but suffice it to say, standards and equal quality have not been transferred across community and city lines.
As far as the two sides to the story… there does appear to be something missing, but chances are high that those liquor stores are sponsors of the radio station and they are not likely to stand for bad mouthing of sponsors at their establishment regardless of how much damage it does to their community.
Tyrese, I fully support you in speaking out against all these liquor stores in black neighborhoods. I have always had a problem with convenience stores in our neighborhoods which carry the cheapest off brand beers and wine-like beverages with slang names–that are ABSOLUTELY not carried in white neighborhoods. You will not find a night train or hurricane or joose there. Keep up the good work and we should all keep up the pressure.
If I wasn’t a fan before….count me as one now………….. Tami
I AM PROUD OF THIS YOUNG MAN, THE IDEA THAT HE WAS EVICTED FROM THE RADIO STATION IS JUST THE REALIZATION AND CONFIRMATION HE NEEDS, FOR HIM TO EXPERIENCE THE “TRUE” INFLUENCE AND EFFECT HE POSSESS. NOW HE REALLY KNOWS HE’S ON THE RIGHT ROAD. A BLACK MAN, INTELLECTUALLY PISSED OFF IN AMERICA, A WONDERFUL THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COPORATE WHORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blacks aren’t children that need to be protected from themselves. However, liquor stores and convenience stores in the ‘hood promote poor diets and excessive drinking. You model yourself after and partake of what you have access to and what you see, it’s just straight up facts.
Some other comment said it well: suburban, largely white communities have the resources and pull to have a “not in my backyard” approach to vices. Other communities sometimes don’t. Sad, but true.
Signed,
A white guy who cares
I don’t listen to “Rap”, but I’m curious about one thing. Does Tyrese use dehumanizing lyrics in his rap music? Because if he does, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
Truth be told, and Tyrese told the truth all that hearsay has no merit and Tyrese didn’t say close up the radio station and lose your business, but he did say you’re a radio station and can make a difference in the community you’re in, to make changes.. so what if it’s been going on. for decades.. you gettin pay o la or what? I ‘m sure you may be under some pressure as an independent black radio station trying to stay a float, it’s too bad the product of profit is the detriment to the black community. Use your brain man.. do the right thing!!
It’s time that the southern states come correct, stop living in the past!
Parents’ of Delaware, talk to your state legislatures, picket, boycott, do what you have to do, don’t be afraid,, find a civil rights attorney to support you and security to keep you safe in your fight.. liquor stores need to move away from children.. give them a chanc to be somebody!
I’m proud of Tyrese. That radio station should be bombarded with massive boycotts & repercussions. Unbelievable! Let us all hope this becomes a trend in terms of popular celebs taking a stand for something positive.
While I agree with the point of this article I have to not disagree but kind of add a perspective.. Honestly I’m kinda of tired of having the finger of blame pointed EVERYWHERE else but where it truly matters! Should there be 100′s of alcohol and Gun/Pawn shops in predominantly A.American neighborhoods? No, but they are there because OUR people CREATED the demand for them! Gun shops are 1 thing but I’m sorry White people drink just as much Alcohol as we do if not MORE! My Caucasian associates and friends get WASTED every weekend.. But still manage to take care of home, raise their children & be back at work bright and early on Monday morning.. Imagine that?…..
The difference is most of them have/had a Mother—-> (&)<— a Father to teach & provide them with morals & standards to handle these situations! We are the problem.. NOT the "the Man", not the stores.. They don't force our young brothers & sisters in there to buy their products they do so willingly.. Take those stores out the "Hood" and people will go find what they need elsewhere to do their dirt!
Last I checked Single mothers accounted for about 65-70% of all A.American house holds… This is the problem! I don't care what u put around my home I was raised better so I'm going to chose to DO better! As I kid/teen I use to sneak & listen to my uncles Too Short & Ice T tapes, not a single word of the filth they spoke of had a bit of influence on me because my mother & family instilled the values in me that allowed me to know what I was supposed to do.
& all that cursing and violence was purely entertainment and If I dared do any of it she'd kill me!lol So I didn't care what rappers were talking about I just liked listening to the music. The reality is no one is forcing our young brothers to go stand out on a corner to push dope, instead of standing on someones job-site or sitting in someones class to better them selves. They are choosing this path of destruction!
More A.American Men need to Stand Up and and be Leaders in their homes. Be a positive role model for their child/children so the streets won't have to influence them otherwise!! Quit impregnating our Sisters and then leaving them to take on a Mans responsibility, just to turn around and talk about them like dogs when they have too get "the Man" to force you to do your part "financially".. Until we focus more on these issues NOTHING is going to change! No matter where they hide the Guns & Alcohol!
1L
The sad thing abt it Tyrese is not talking abt Delaware being exempt it’s all ova the Black neighborhoods…It’s more Arab stores in the Black area then churches….
DJ Problem, I’m feeling you but the real reason why KISS kicked Tyrese out has more to do with political bullshit. The radio station was not aware that Tyrese was performing that night at a local college. Since the radio station supported his single, they felt slighted and egos were bruised. That’s it. Google WBJR KISS 101.7 and read the letter posted on the station’s website to Tyrese’s record label. It reeks of money and ego. The station felt he used them. It really has very little to do with the liquor store rant. Money is the root of all evil. Believe dat dawg!
How dare you speak the truth, get outta here with all that foolishness…SMH
Y’all praising Tyrese like he isn’t typical hood nigga. He treated the mother of his child and former wife like trash and praises white women while bashing black women. Tyrese always goes to Twitter to put his foot in his mouth. Both he and Tony Q can have many seats from that empty ass room Tyrese was supposed to speak in.
Tyrese is a great artist and respected community supporter. Our company, Ankh Entertainment worked with him on media for his WATTS 2000 Festival. He holds the black community in high regard. There is no excuse for this station not having progressive thinkers alive and conscious in 2011. Tyrese should be be commended for his abiltity to excercise the right to free speech. Reminder: DRUGS, LIQUOR, STREET CRIMES are BIG BUSINESS for Mortuaries, Insurance Companies, Banks etc.
Wow… Let’s wake up Black Americans. It’s time to learn the importance of repect to our Black Family. Seek for understanding and fight for what’s right for you and your community.
I know the owner of the radio station might not of liked the comments, but alcohol abuse is a BIG problem in urban neighborhoods and Tyrese should have spoken out, and the host of the show should have shut up and listened too! Tyrese was doing the community a favor speaking out like that.
Lynn in New Orleans, LA.
The DJ sounds like some rich White dude who takes a big gun and a couple of body guards with him to buy gas in “the hood” … the man should be taken off the air for being so bigotted. Tyrese was only telling the truth and should have been allowed to speak freely. Some of those talk show hosts are serious control freaks …
One way you could find out is to send a copy of the letter to the radio station and ask if it was written by them. If it was NOT, the author of that letter could get into a great deal of trouble for slander or libel, defaming someone. It seemed fishy to me as well. I think it’s more likely that a station manager would not say a great deal and deal with the public, and Tyrese through a lawyer or some other representitive rather than right a poison pen letter like that. and yes, I did notice the grammer errors …
Well, I totally support Tyreese on this issue, but I notice that Boyce is ALWAYS talking about, “let’s get out there and stop these atrocities in our communities!” There has been two occasions where Boyce promoted a rally, and to this day, he still hasn’t shown up! Then he critiques Rev. Al?
Btw, Boyce, tell our people the real reason behind this radio station’s decision….. Allow me; It’s because that LIQUOR STORE is more than likely a sponsor! You work for some shady sponsors as well. You already knew this so don’t act surprised, you fraud!
Again, I agree with EVERYTHING that Mr. Gibson said!
Hmmmm lets see high ratings for your radio station or save kids from liquor stores? Im with Tyrese!
He is absolutely right, They don’t like to hear positive things going on for Blacks….He is speaking the truth….There is 2 liquor stores on every block….three Chinese eating places serving nasty spoil food, 3 Chinese nail salon, and hair places…..ALL in one block……when will it end…..EVERYBODY from any where in the world makes a “PIT” stop in the Black community……most don’t even speak english, but they know how to count money…..
But the people in their own community can not OWN business there…….WHY!I would stop listening to this station to…as it is part of the problem…Congratulation to Tyrese….Keep on trying to make it right…….no matter what……
I had to do a survey about liquor stores……and what I observed was shocking……In the city of Newark…there were 2 or 3 liquor stores on every block…..in the White areas…there was one or two ”Sprits” stores for that whole area…….
I would say it was about 150+ stores in Newark area and about 1 or 2 stores in Clark area….or Springfield area…….
And that the TRUE FACT….
And what really sad, the liquid stores are PACK in the Black community….I MEAN PACK…..
Who owns these stores now….Arabic……ALL STORES are OWN by foreign people….getting rich and poisoning Blacks……and the Blacks are so stupid and nieve, they KEEP coming……they keep patronizing these stores……
In ALL urban area, the people living in these areas have lots of sickness……
The station’s management must be “on the take”!
As a mother, grandmother, greatgrand mother, I have to say that I am so proud of this young man for taking a stand for what is right. Too long have our young men been brainwashed into to thinking that it is alright to over look things like liquor and drugs, in our neighbor hoods and promote this destruction to our children via media. When the rest of our young men wake up, our enterainers, rappers, musicians and movies stars and stop allowing the media to cause them to promote ,violence and drugs and murder and stop allowing themselves too be seen as criminals onT.V. and in the movies as a way of getting respect and being cool. You will beinG to see black on black crime go down, for children imitate what they see and hear. Whether alcohol, drugs or violence. Like Tyrese, take a stand, be men stand up and be COUNTED for what is right. Pull your support from WJKS.
May you be blessed and highly favored Tyrese
It goes to show how the corporate America feels toward a black men with an intelligent opinion on this plague in the black community how quickly they try to shut him down….we must take a stand on this!
Tyrese you stood up for those kids who time after time will be enslaved to their community because the poisons that are used to keep them there. More people should speak out against drugs, alcohol, and fast cash stores that takes on a face in every black Aurban community.
Thank You Tyrese for doing the right thing…..
I respect him for taking a stand – Amen!
Kiss 101.7 are suckers !! What did they want him to speak about (Blunts and 40′s , Selling crack and Shooting folks up ) ?? Who kicks someone out for speaking with Common Sense ?? They need to stop bumping all this Bull******t and play some REAL Music !! Mad cause Power 99 got all their listeners , LMAOOOOOOOOO !!!
thank you tyrese
Nobody here it seems wants to point out the reason the stores are there is the demand. These are businesses.. location location location… its not the businesses fault that the location they have a huge demand for their product is located in neighborhoods self described as black. If the amount of goods they were selling were reduced, they would have to close shop as they couldn’t afford to keep it open. Its basic economics.
Just another legal drug like cigarettes, they sicken the community. People of color are taken in by the need to escape the harshness of life in urban settings.Thank you, Tyrese for standing up and spreading the message. God Bless. From San Francisco

Good article. But I don’t know if that was the ONLY reason he was kicked out of the station for. Perhaps he said something on air (such as a curse word or the N-word) that you can’t say on live radio. If not, then that radio station needs to be boycotted quickly.
side note: I’m from Chicago. We don’t have gun stores in the hood. You couldn’t even legally own a handgun in Chicago until a year or so ago. The Gun store, Liquor store, church saying is a little outdated now’n'days. If you said, Liquor store, Church, Corner boys, Rims shop. Maybe that would apply better.
Also the guns that these gangs are shooting people with are not legally bought guns. I find it odd that most people don’t realize that. Nearly 99.9% of our murders are with illegal guns. Maybe if the innocent person actually had a gun themselves there would be less murders.
Still, good article though.
Yo go Tyrese. And yeah that radio station should be shut off for throwing him out of the building and not letting him speak his mind.
I would like to meet the people who support this radio station and stand against Tyrese. This is appalling. This radio station should be boycotted
Another good question in all of this would be which building came first..the liquor store or the school? If the school building was present first then there could have been a vote by the parents to stop the liquor stores presence. However if that liquor store was there first and the school board knew it and continued to build a school there, then there is another yet different problem. It is okay to voice your opinion in the media however there is a time and place for everything. Tyrese could have taken his media time to promote what he was being paid to do, left and gone down to the state to process the proper paperwork to fight for that situation for the kids. Right is right, and timing is everything. This is like someone walking into the White House to speak to the President on the air about one topic and deciding to go off the script. You better bet money, you are going to be put out immediately too. Tyrese was out of order in my opinion. I do not support him as I stated in an earlier post. Nothing said in any of these post have changed my stand after reading any of them. M.
….one more thing…whenever you are invited into anothers space…respect the boundaries. ….you would expect and demand the same. M
Tyrese your such a stud for telling them individuals to respect the community fuck the program director. It seems he has no vested intrest with our babies FUCK HIM and the DELEWARE radio station.
THEY’D RATHER HE GO ON AIR TALKIN N!&&ER!SH AND SOUNDING STUPID LIKE BIRDMAN OR ONE OF THESE FOOLS TALKIN ‘BOUT MONEY,CARS & HOES.
In today’s media ignorance sells…They can’t make a dime off somethin’ that makes sense. Kiss 101.7…you suck hard!!
Good job Tyrese, using your voice to help shed the light on something that been happening in our community for years and we just sit idly by and do nothing. I applaud you for the courage to stand up. I am running for the School Board in Broward County, the largest Democratic County in the State of Florida, and I will add liquor stores in our neighborhoods to my platforms as one of the most serious issues that we face in our neighborhoods. As long as he advocates for children, I will be a fan for life. I am a true believer that if there is to be a change in our communities, it is up to us to make that happen. I agree with Dr. Watkins, we have all the intellectual and emotional knowledge needed to leave a proper legacy for our children. I consider every black child in the United States of American my child. When one of us hurt, we all hurt.
He didn’t say we could not have alcohol, he said get the stores away from the schools…
Response to DJ Problem, check your facts. Take a close look. All of these Stop and Go spots infiltrate the black community. Why the black community? Because if they try to move in the white community, their asses will voted “out” PERIOD. Before any establishment is allowed in a community they must go before a zoning committee. Those white dont like the idea, they will initiate, unite and shut it down. Yeah, I agree its a business, but they dont live where they open their stores. They get the money and run. Indeed we must take our share of the blame,no doubt, but to remove the brother for trying to initiate a movement, cant knock that. Support it
it is good to see a young man being aware of whats going on in the black community at large. and speaking out on a serious issue, this shows me their is still hope for the future.
INTERESTING, I DID READ BETWEEN YOUR LINES, SMART ADVERTISEMENT.
Who said Tyrese was “in a bad mood?” Did I miss something in the article? …or was that based on personal knowledge of the situation? O_o?
To TONY Q:
Since when have artists NOT come on-air to promote whatever their “thing” is? Artists are usually only invited to come and be interviewed when they have 1. a hot single/CD; 2. a club date or concert in the area; 3. some sort of philanthropic event or political issue. So “Tony Q” did you not get the memo on why artists are invited to radio stations/TV programs?? It’s a symbiotic relationship, dear. The artist promotes his/her event (or whatever), and the radio program gets more listeners who are fans of the particular artist. Everybody gets something out of it and now, your station can capitalize further on the incident, since it’s getting media time.
Bottom Line: Get real (…and your lazy grammatical usage and poor spelling speaks VOLUMES about why liquor stores shouldn’t be near schools…even if that wasn’t the case at the schools YOU attended. LoL), and stop being so petty.
Cathleen…you seem to be missing the point and, since you seem to have a bone to pick with Tyrese regarding his hiring practices, I’ll start by asking: “What does that have to do with CHILDREN, SCHOOLS and LIQUOR STORE PRESENCE?”
I can guarantee that none of the “models” in the video were in elementary or middle school, so what did their presence have to do with the fact that he was drinking alcohol and smoking a cigar? Are you saying that children watch his videos, and may be duly influenced by his activities in them? My response to that is that the parents are responsible for setting examples for their children and, even though other kids MAY have an influence over their children during the day, THEY have the ultimate responsibility for their child’s guidance. Is that okay with you?
Joab, stay with us, dear. Tyrese wasn’t talking about ALL liquor stores…just the ones near schools. He’s speaking out to protect the CHILDREN. You’re grown, and don’t need our protection.
@Madysiin…You may want to scroll to Stephanie’s comments, as well. She’s NOT the General Manager. She posted a letter WRITTEN BY the G.M. Beyond that… there is only ONE (important) SIDE where this topic is concerned, and that is: WE DON’T NEED ANY MORE LIQUOR STORES NEAR SCHOOLS. Where is the disconnect for you that causes you to debate that statement of fact?

Read the classic book’s by Coach Powell, maybe these fool’s will stop drinking 40oz ‘s of liquid crack and stop thinking they got their 40 acra’s and a mule.
Disgraceful.
HONDA GAMBA… LET THEM PUT THE BILLBOARDS AND THE CORNER LIQUORS STORES IN YOUR COMMUNITY…PUT A FEW DRUG DEALERS ON YOUR CORNER AND SEE WHAT KIND OF ADDICTION YOU WILL HAVE.
RESPECT THE BOUNDARIES?… IF SOMEONE IS TRYING TO MAYBE MAKE THE PEOPLE AWARE WHO CARES ABOUT BOUNDARIES?
I love it all. I love his actions as well as this write-up. Salute!
CHicago does not allow them to open up near schools and schurches
Good for him, we need more strong black men who don’t just go with the flow. Much respect!!!
Keep talking, don’t stop, someone need to get the store out of the neighborhood. Let them drive to the grocery store for the drinks
I used to teach 2nd grade in Detroit. I was writing the 3 forms of matter on a board during a Science Lesson. “SOLIDS, GAS…” & then I start to write the last word. I wrote, “LIQU…” & about 6 of my kids yell out “LIQUOR”!!! They could not read well, but they knew the word liquor because it was on every street corner. Liquor was a site word for most of my students… now that is sad.
I love the fact that Tyrese spoke on the issue, and exposing the truth. However, this is the nuances of what you call ‘Ministry’. I pray Tyrese strength in the Lord… and he continue doing what he’s doing. On another note, I feel that this article was a bit judgmental and boisterous when mentioning the other rappers and artists, in comparison. Let God be the judge…
TYRESS, WE NEED YOU TO BE A POLITICIAN FOR AMERICIAN BLACK PEOPLE. MY MOTHER LIVES IN ROXBURY MA. THIS LIQUIOR STORE IS IN THE BLACK AREA. OWN BY SPANISH. ALL YOU SEE ARE BLACK WOMEN AND YOUNG BLACK MEN, ON SUNDAY STANDING IN LINE FOR 12NOON LIQUIOR STORE TO OPEN. IT IS SO SAD TO SEE OUR PEOPLE FALL SO LOW.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE WORD. ALSO PLEASE BE COME A POLITICIAN. YOU CAN BECOME A RAPPER LATER IN LIFE.
SHUT DOWN ALL LIQUIOR STORS IN OUR BLACK AREA NOW.
THANK YOU.
I think it is obsurd that you kicked off Tyrese because he spoke out about liquor stores accross the street from schools in the black community. I used to live in DE and it is crazy. I moved out of DE when I was shot twice by stray bullets. I would think that you would support his opinion and post it to your website as a “health headline” instead of pointing out the “bs” like a woman who aborted her own baby- who does that benefit to know? I will tell everyone that I know not to support your program if you do not change your way of thinking of our people. Furthermore, you owe Tyrese and the DE community an apology.
Your position is interesting. DJ if you are not black then it may be difficult for you to relate to the segregation and disparity our people have suffered from the community, especially in the low income residential areas. It’s easy to say don’t do it, but the influences and availabilty to our youth make it too easy. I would have to agree with Tyrese on this one. Let us not make it easy for our youth who grow up living around disparity, especially when they do not have a choice of where they live. Yeah we all have choices, as adults, but when we are faced with choices as children and do not know better, often times the influences of our surroundings lead us to hopelessness and bad decisions that will affect our development.

RIGHT ON TYRESE, AS A YOUNG BLACK MAN SPEAKING OUT ON THE ISSUES THAT IS TEARING DOWN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND KILLING OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN. STORES SELLING ANY TYPE OF LIQUOR WITHIN A SCHOOL ZONE SHOULD BE CLOSE..YES I DO BELIEVE OUR BLACK POLITIANS ARE LOOKING THE OTHER WAY, BECAUSE IT BRINGS REVENUE NOT ONLY TO THE OWNERS BUT TO THE LOCAL POLITIAN. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS TYRESE…
an intelligent black man is the greatest enemy to corporate America, which makes money by keeping us high, drunk and looking for the next party. OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE CHANGE IS COMING IF WE STAND TOGETHER FOR OUR CHILDREN SAKE
Great job Tyrese, we need more people in our communities speaking against this tragedy. Why are we not protesting the placement of the liquor stores? Why are we letting our community leaders dicdate their location? We must get fed up and stand up for the rights of our people. We can not give up our rights or our local communities. People we must become more alert on the home front.
I got your back Tyrese…..You now are #1 on my my List of Black Entertainers. Please don’t stop standing up for what your beliefs are!!!!
How can you get put out for telling the truth? Its just the TRUTH!
So—just asking. Do we not factor in the various forms of mind pollution and control that plague the human spirit, thereby causing 98% of actions—most of which are not conducive life and living. I am all for accountability of ones’s action but one has to understand their own c”conditioning” before they can see clearly the full ramifications of their actions. Don’t be so hard on them—forgive them for they know not what they do—educate them; and this will make you a leader among men.
Tyrese is 210% correct! Let’s write the radio station and I wonder what the name of the stores are? They should be boycotted and shut down!
I spent much of my youth in Oakland, and I can vouch for every word of your post. You see it in every big city in America where there’s a black community of any size.
I will most certainly support his movies and music, just because he has the heart to stand up and speak, when so many of his contempararies are silent, when it comes to social issues in the black community.
Awesome Job I’m so proud of you for speaking out Tyrese
It is time that we wake up and take action protecting our Kids by educating them to do the right thing
Thank you for standing up to the radio station !! Mazeltov !!
i personally think that Tyrese made a good point, however, the community needs to speak on this issue. If they don’t then outsiders can’t dictate what a community can does or need.
The Tobacco & Alcohol industry spend millions on Radio Advertisement, therefore, I can see why the Station got scared and kicked him out. I would support a community initiative to ban alchohol and tobacco sales near local schools, but, I can’t blame ‘Chris Brown or R Kelly’s as this writer attempts. That is simply NONSENSE. even the late great Lou Rawls has a domestic violence record, so was he so stained by that he can’t Repent and do something positive?
Lets stop blaming someones past and accept what s/he may provide for the future.
Although
you are correct in your theory, we have to consider how people are programmed
and conditioned for failure or success. Our environment is crucial to our
development. The change of a kid becoming a misfit to society is much greater if
the cultural experience promotes that kind of outcome. In fact, behavior is a
product of a collective consciousness that human beings embrace within their
respective cultures. Give the kids a break and allow them to evolve spiritually
where there are visions of spiritual values, honorable intentions, and moral
principles. Anything less would be blasphemy.
Oliver Rhodes, CHD Leadership Dynamics Specialist
Boyce, stop being lazy and put all the contact information to this station in your article. We need numbers, addresses, and e-mail addresses in order to take this thing to the next level. Tyrese did the RIGHT THING!
So unfortunate that this “Lack of Exposure” for Tyrese ! First, Tyrese lives in Los Angeles, grew up in South L.A. (Probably didn’t start expanding his horizons until his bit of Fame) That has been a fight for years in his apparatus ! He knows no more but that. Ty doesn’t understand that it doesn’t effect everybody the same. People in DELAWARE do not shoot up the community after a visit to the liquor store. People in DELAWARE don’t deal with a lot of Robbery from their own due to drowning in elements of a ungroomed society. Poor Tyrese was doing what he knew !!! I wonder if he drove around lil Delaware and did a survey of Liquor stores to schools??? Astute minds wonder ????
Look around people do you really need this Brother to remind you about the Liq’s in your neighborhoods this problem have been around for quite sometime now the trick is to hire Blacks to work in those that are not Black owned…why do you think they let young blacks hang out in front of their stores and Drink and ask for Spare change….because no one Complains about it…this is never going to stop until we force our Elected Officials to start paying attention to what’s going on in our areas…Props to Tyrese and others like him….
